Dear iSLCollective Members!
iSLCollective has run out of money! We need to collect £30,000 to survive until Christmas. Please help keep iSLCollective alive, make a small donation now!

iSLCollective has grown big. Our membership and visits have doubled over the last couple months with over 410,000 users and 40,000 daily visits! This is why we had to hire our first paid employee, a programmer working full-time (see photos here), without whom we wouldn't be able to maintain and develop the site. We also have to pay our office rent, the bills of 6 servers and a server expert. As a result, the site now costs many times more to operate than last year. We need £30,000 to survive the next half year.
As you know, this site is financed by donations from its members. If you have been helped out by iSLCollective, please help iSLCollective and make a small donation now (by clicking any of the green buttons on the right)! Only with your help can we keep iSLCollective going and growing!
What your contribution will pay for:1. Hosting (internet-related costs)
The number of daily visits grew to such an extent that we have to rent 6 servers, instead of 1. We also have to keep buying more and more powerful computing resources to keep the site speed fast.
2. Server expert
To make sure that in case of technical problems we can quickly intervene and fix it, we hired a part-time expert server assistant, Mark. He regularly monitors the servers, installs necessary software updates, looks after our backup mechanism, etc.
3. Full-time programmer & office
The enormity of the programming tasks required us to hire a full-time programmer, Balint, to take care of the website, fix potential bugs, and help us improve the service. We are renting a small, shared office space to accommodate him.
GiftsWe would like to thank you for supporting us with a gift. As a small token of our gratitude, we'll be sending you a gift with your chosen package, as listed on the right. These clothing accessories have been generously offered by a fashion brand sponsor that we teamed up with. Shipping is included in the amount displayed, you won't have to pay anything extra for it. (FAQ: Is it obligatory to accept a gift? -No, you can also choose to just donate and receive no gifts.)
We will also gladly include our donors' names in our Honors List (optional).
Besides, each donor will get an Angel icon on the top of their page (only visible to the donor and the admins) as a reminder that they are our Angels.

Please tell me where I can buy a prepaid bank card here in Thailand? I can find them on the internet but then again I can only use a prepaid card to get it. I have been looking for the last two years so that I can buy a program online from the US and I cannot find an answer.

I really like and use your worksheets because they are very helpful. I do not have a credit card but I'd like to help. How can I do it?
I have loved your site for several years and sad to see you are having financial issues.
The answer is simple. Yeah for many people they don't like to see advertisements on their websites and feel they are selling their souls, but this can be the only way if costs are so high. You said yourself that there are 40,000 visits a day, tell that to companies and they'll be jumping at the chance to advertise on your site.
Even if you manage to raise 30,000, this money will last until Xmas and then what? Same again? Can't always rely on the users to raise the capital needed to run the site. Start looking into advertising. It makes sense!
Regards,
A worried friend.
I have already made a contribution this year - I donated through my home email but download my worksheets at work. I still got the email with the "Please, don't just use us, but this time, help us!" which I think is unfair.
Speaking for myself, I would rather there is a yearly fee, like a lot of sites do, than receiving emails like this.
I like the site a lot - although I'm no expert in computers and know nothing about site maintenance surely there must be something that can be done to keep the site costs low?
Kind regards
Isilda
I've just donated but I see that your request says that this money will keep you in business for another 6 months. Please consider moving over to a subblockedion-based system. I would happily pay £30 a year to have access to this incredible resource and if all your other members did that as well, it puts you on a stable basis for the future with the system growing along with the number of users.
Good luck
Melissa
I've just sent my donation. I have to mention that I love the site and it assists me greatly.
I agree with other members saying that they would prefer paying an annual membership fee. I think this would solve the problem in the long run, so the survival of this incredible site wouldn't be depended on donations.
Yours,
Sharon.
We have always taken every opportunity to thank our authors for contributing their teaching resources selflessly. Without their contribution, this site would be nothing. You and the others who share your work, are the heart and soul of this place!
However, there are those who take away many hundreds or thousands of worksheets, yet they do not share anything with the community. We wrote them, and only them, the line "please don't just use us, but this time also help us". I'm sorry if it sounded too harsh for some, we didn't mean to be judgmental or offensive. The more people use the site, the happier we are. That's why I've always declined suggestions, and will decline in the future, to charge members a fee to get access to the materials. We want every teacher to benefit from the site, without any conditions! This is why we have never asked anyone: why haven't you uploaded anything, or why haven't you made a small donation? iSLCollective is free for everyone.
At the same time, we would like to make more and more of our users take responsibility for the site. Many people don't understand that this is not YouTube, or Gmail or Picasa, whose free service is provided by a major corporation. iSLCollective is financed by us. No one else will do it for us, not Google, not Yahoo, nor anybody else.
The authors have done their part when they enriched the site with their work, and for this we're eternally grateful. But I believe those who have downloaded many hundreds of worksheets and not shared their own should feel a greater responsibility for the financial sustenance of the site.
And once again, it's not an obligation. It's a choice. A choice that I'm kindly asking them to consider.
Thanks for all the authors and donors for showing your love!
Bless up,
I have not contributed any resources yet but have contributed finacially on two occasions and plan to do it again. Therefore, I do not understand why I receive "reminders" which more or less tell me that I am taking advantange of the system.
Good luck with the fund raising and best wishes to all of you, working hard to make this site so outstanding.

I've just made my donation. I couldn't keep using your site without helping you.
I absolutely LOVE your site. You guys are doing a wonderful job!
Congratulations!!
Cristina
I read your post about the virus you've encountered. I can assure you the donate pages are free from viruses! Let me give you some help to solve your problem.
The virus you've seen on Paypal's site has 2 main types: one of them attacks from a server (i.e. from the internet) and will copy a so-called "trojan" or "malware" onto your computer, while the other one is already on the user's computer and will try to gather all sorts of personal data, for example your bank account number, pin, etc. The first type will "install" the 2nd type of virus.
Our server is well defended against the first type, and does not host any trojans or malware that will attack our users. There have been no attacks against our server, nor are there any infected pages on iSLCollective. It is very important to us to keep our code safe and clean, so we are always on the lookout to avoid virus threats.
The virus you've seen is on your computer, so I highly recommend you to make a deep scan with a virus scanner. The one I recommend is: Avast, which you can download from http://www.avast.com/. There are both Mac and Windows versions.
I hope this will help you solve the problem.
