Dear Colleague!
We apologize that our service has been more and more shaky in the recent weeks, with the site becoming inaccessible for hours every day. We are sad about this because we know how much you rely on in your work. It's the consequence that the pandemic is having on us. Our traffic has skyrocketed, as more teachers need online resources in these times. We were happy to meet this increased demand and did our best to keep up with the growing pressure. But it's just too much for the existing server setup. We tried everything, but nothing helps, so it's time to face the fact that we need to rebuild and upgrade our entire server infrastructure to serve this traffic, which is a huge expense. Let me be frank with you: we need your help with this. Please consider donating the price of a coffee to help us do this upgrade and keep the site running!
We know how much you count on us to be online and readily available for your preparation and teaching. We try very hard to continue and live up to our promise eleven years ago that we will make teachers' lives better in every country of the world. It's an honor to be your partners in getting through this pandemic and allowing your students to fulfill their potential in life, and not letting it affect the growth of your students and !
Keep up the good work!
Peter Laszlo
We took action right away when the COVID 19 crisis started unfolding. What we realized first was that our worksheets were not prepared for a global demand for online teaching. What can your student do with a Word document that has no type field to type or where the checkbox is just an embedded image? Of course, if there is a will, there is a way and your student can work around this in a word processor, but we decided that this was just too clumsy and unreasonable to ask from a student. So we had this idea of putting our worksheet thumbnails on a separate page and simply put a drawing tool next to it. Simple, but handy! We call it the Fill feature. Your student can send you the link of the filled document, then you can put your corrections on it online, and send it back to them. With more than 10 thousand worksheets filled online in a few weeks since its realise, it seems you've found this new feature useful! We keep improving the usability. Next up: making it work on mobile devices, too.
Second, we responded to the new pandemic-induced remote teaching situation by reconfiguring our servers and optimizing them to take this heavier load that we started experiencing with masses of teachers flocking to the site who never used iSLCollective before, but now needed resources to use in a new world where there are fewer contact hours, and students more assignments that they can work on independently. Our servers are under a very hard pressure, but we monitor them constantly and keep adding extra server power when necessary.
Third, we increased our helpdesk capacity to be able to answer all your questions. Feel free to write to info [at] islcollective [dot] com if you encounter a software bug on iSLCollective, experience a site slowdown or have any other issues using the site.
We were happy to see so many of you try out our interactive video quizzes that we are very proud of. A lot of teachers are starting to realize how useful these Youtube-based popup quizzes are in distance education. In case you didn't know, you can also have our little robot generate your own grammar or vocab quiz in minutes or you can create a custom quiz from scratch. Just bring a Youtube video URL and let us do the work for you. You can then work with the finished popup quiz in class or you can assign it to your students as homework, and overview their scores and answers on iSLCollective.
Our teacher trainers, Anna and Jo, do webinars and roll out fresh video tutorials every couple of day to show you best practices about using popup video quizzes in your teaching and to give you general teaching methodology tips tha you can try out in your next class. Check out our Youtube channelto watch past episodes. Also, let us know if there is any topic you want us to cover in forthcoming episodes.
So this sums up our pandemic relief efforts. If you are happy with how the iSLCollective Team's crisis response, we are asking you to donate the price of a coffee to show your support.
You can choose to select a monthly amount to pay every month or you can make a one-time payment. We are happiest for recurring payments, which means you authorize us to automatically charge your Paypal account or bank card every month - until you cancel it. So if you're thinking about whether to pay 15 euros once, or 3-5 euros every month, please choose a smaller, but monthly amount. Of course, we are immensely grateful for one-time payments, as well!
In either case, technically you pay in your national currency, and our bank will exchange it. The currencies indicated in the payment box are there to give you a better idea of how much you are going to pay.
We are glad to answer any questions at info [at] islcollective [dot] com.
Paying every month (monthly recurring payment)
If you select "PAY MONTHLY" in the pay box above, it means that you are going to make a payment every month, and with your authorization this amount will be debited (=charged) by iSLCollective automatically on the monthly anniversary of the first payment, until of course, you stop your payments.
You can easily stop your automatic monthly payments by going to the History/support sub menu in your MyPage (click on your avatar in the top right corner). There you will find a link that takes you directly to the page on PayPal.com where you can stop the payments. In case of CCBill (our bank card payment processor), you just have to reply to the payment confirmation email they have sent you, and they will cancel your recurring payment within a few hours.
Recurring payment works both with PayPal and your bank card. Your account will be upgraded to "iSLCollectve Sponsor" right after successful payment.
Paying just once
Sure. If you select "PAY ONCE" in the pay box above, you will be charged your selected amount only once. Your account will be upgraded to "iSLCollective Sponsor" immediately after successful payment.
