Co-founder Peter Laszlo's Message

Dear colleagues!

This is the time of our traditional Christmas Fundraiser. If you want to show your love toward iSLCollective, now you can do so. Since we are partly financed by our users, your help - no matter the amount - makes a huge difference!

As a Christmas present for our users, on December 13, 2016 we rolled out a new video lesson platform on iSLCollective. You can bring Youtube and Vimeo videos to the new iSLCollective video lesson editor and create interactive quizzes for them. Your quiz questions will show on top of the video, and pause it while students are answering the question. We made the editor super easy to use. Soon I hope we will have a huge library of superb video lessons that hundreds of thousands of colleagues will be using in their classes the world over. If you like our video lesson section, that's another reason to become a Supporting Member, because the incoming proceeds is what makes it possible to make our video lessons even more awesome!

We will use the incoming proceeds to maintain and continuously improve the site. Uniquely, through this year's fundraiser we are giving you more influence to shape the future of iSLCollective: you can decide where you'd like your money to go! While subscribing, you can select whether you want us to spend your money 1) on the development of the abovementioned new video lesson platform, 2) on the worksheets section or 3) "where most needed" (meaning you leave it for us to decide).

Our main expenditure elements are staff salaries and internet bills:

Technology:
Maintenance, data backup, servers, bandwidth, development, search engine optimization. We serve between 70-110,000 teachers every day so we have to maintain a powerful and reliable back-end infrastructure.

People:
8 iSLCollective staff members make sure that every aspect of the technological and administrative side of the operations is covered professionally.

Finally, let me tell you what our team has accomplished in 2016:

1) We gave a facelift to the site: the brand new design looks great on mobile phones and tablets, too. it took three months to finish this job, but it was worth it.
2) A new section for the main page showing the best uploads of the previous day.
3) We added a bunch of new servers for the site to run smoothly even when the site is seeing 100 thousand visits per day.
4) We provided technical support for our users throughout the year.
5) And finally, the brand new video lessons section!

Bless up,

Peter Laszlo

"Me parece una página fantástica que llevo usando al menos tres años, se la recomiendo a cualquier profesor, maestro, alumno para que la utilicen, porque los recurso que se encuentran en ella son estupendos y muy útiles, no me decido a recomendar una actividad en concreto, porque todas son estupendas y desde aquí doy las gracias a todas aquellas personas que trabajan a diario para hacerme el trabajo mas fácil y a mis alumnos más ameno. Thanks a lot"

ISLCollective has been one of the best resources over the years for materials for my classroom and I tell everyone I meet about it as a resource for them when they're looking for something new for their classrooms. I am more than happy to be a sponsor of ISLCollective because it provides quality classroom materials from people all over the world. I hope that others will see the value as well and also support such a great site. Thank you, dear authors and ISLCollective, for all your help!

Why have I become a sponsor? Because you deserve it! You offer so many resources for teachers that I feel obliged to support you. Thanks and keep going!

I sponsored iSLCollective because it offers many options for teachers in a variety of languages. I found interesting ideas and saved much time, because the website is logically structured and I can quickly find what I need. I would like to thank the whole iSLcollective team for sharing so many ideas.
  • "I chose to become a sponsor as I had been given a lot of inspiration to improve my teaching methods and I wanted iSLCollective to go on operating. This is the most useful website I have found until now. I think I must contribute to the maintenance costs as the ideas shared by all of you are worth more than many of the expensive books I have bought."
  • "I became a member because I find the resources very good and helpful in the preparation of lessons. There are printables for all age groups and many novel ideas, which make them more interesting to learn, especially for the younger students. Also iSLCollective saves a lot of time in the preparation of lessons. So I think to become a supporting member is one of the best contributions I can make. All the best."
  • "For me, sponsoring iSLCollective was an opportunity to support a thriving community of engaged users and contributors. I personally found plenty of very useful materials and, in some cases, almost perfectly suited for my online classes. What I appreciate is the versatility of materials provided by experienced teachers and tutors of English. By becoming a sponsor I wanted to say 'Thank you' for their time, great ideas, creative approach to teaching and the will of sharing these with the rest of the community."
  • "iSL is a great way for teachers to help each other by sharing their resources, but without the hard cash to support the website that resource will be lost. As a private tutor I really appreciate having these worksheets available and have been happy to contribute towards the maintenance costs."
  • "iSLCollective has helped me quite often with my lessons through easy and free access to other teachers' beautiful work. So I became a sponsor in order to give something back and to ensure this generous and fabulous site will continue to exist for teachers!"
  • "ISLCOLLECTIVE means that I can find excellent quality resources, made by teachers, for all levels and ages, and so well organized I can find great worksheets even when I am in a hurry. The website is very easy to browse and user-friendly, and has so much to offer. It is my first stop whenever I need a new resource. I like the fact that we can look for the material produced by a particular teacher too. I felt it my duty to reciprocate something, and I hope many will contribute, so that the authors can keep up their amazing work, for the benefit of the whole community. Very gratefully, from Christine, from France"

Our plans for 2017

We have big plans for 2017. We would like to further develop our new video lesson platform. For example, we'd like to improve class work with video lessons. We would like to replace paper answer sheets and enable you to let your students submit their answers via their mobile phone or tablet while you are showing them the video lesson on the big screen.

We also want to enable you to organize competitions between them, even pairing them up virtually, to motivate them even better.

Besides, we are planning to let you create virtual classes on iSLCollective and add your students to your class, so you can assign them video homework and check if they have done it, and how well they did in this or that video lesson.

FAQ

Q: How does paying work?

You can choose to select a monthly amount to pay every month or you can make a one-time payment. We are happiest for recurring payments, which means you authorize us to automatically charge your Paypal account or bank card every month - until you cancel it. So if you're thinking about whether to pay 15 euros once, or 3-5 euros every month, please choose a smaller, but monthly amount. Of course, we are immensely grateful for one-time payments, as well!

In either case, technically you pay in your national currency, and our bank will exchange it. The currencies indicated in the payment box are there to give you a better idea of how much you are going to pay.

We are glad to answer any questions at info [at] islcollective [dot] com or +36 30 638 7470.

Q: I am considering paying a small amount every month. How does this work?

Paying every month (monthly recurring payment)

If you select "PAY MONTHLY" in the pay box above, it means that you are going to make a payment every month, and with your authorization this amount will be debited (=charged) by iSLCollective automatically on the monthly anniversary of the first payment, until of course, you stop your payments.

You can easily stop your automatic monthly payments by going to the History/support sub menu in your MyPage (click on your avatar in the top right corner). There you will find a link that takes you directly to the page on PayPal.com where you can stop the payments. In case of CCBill (our bank card payment processor), you just have to reply to the payment confirmation email they have sent you, and they will cancel your recurring payment within a few hours.

Recurring payment works both with PayPal and your bank card. Your account will be upgraded to "iSLCollectve Sponsor" right after successful payment.

Q: I'd like to pay 15 dollars, but only once. Can I do that, too?

Paying just once

Sure. If you select "PAY ONCE" in the pay box above, you will be charged your selected amount only once. Your account will be upgraded to "iSLCollective Sponsor" immediately after successful payment.

Q: What payment methods can I choose from?

1. PayPal

In case of using Paypal, the actual payment takes place on PayPal's secure site. If you create a PayPal account, in most countries you can also pay with your debit or credit card.

Experiencing problems when trying with PayPal? Contact us at info [at] islcollective [dot] com, or try the next option.

2. Bank Card

You can also pay securely with your debit or credit card on CCbill.com, the site of our international payment gateway partner. We have chosen CCBill because it is well-known and trustworthy provider for processing electronic payments.

Experiencing problems when trying to donate with your bank card? You can try using your bank card with PayPal, too. For many people it works, as well. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at info [at] islcollective [dot] com.

Q: I need the invoice after my payment made out in the name of my school/company. Where can I give you the invoice details?

1. In case of Paypal payments

As a default, you will be issued an invoice using the name and address you provided in your PayPal account. If you would like us to make out the invoice to a different name and address, you can request that on the next page before you get to Paypa's page to finish the payment.

2. In case of debit/credit card payments

As a default, you will be issued an invoice using the name and address you provide on our payment form (Step 1 of payment: "Confirming your order").
