So I got a new class, they are fresh out of kindergarten. Problem is that the 90% of the kids do not know how to spell anything. I mean not even cat. They also cannot read a single word in English.
While these kids can speak at beginner level quite well.

How can I fix this problem?
I never taught reading or writing but would love advice as to how and where to start.
Thanks

I have Japanese children also fresh out of kindergarten who can not only spell but also can not speak a word of English. There are some excellent text books that can help.

By text books - I mean those with picture colouring, practicing writing the alphabet, simple songs etc.
