Did/do you know? - Odd facts about New Zealand

A vocabulary cooler. After pre-teaching the vocab I cut up the facts and gave SS a fact each to describe to their partner. I did use a short tourism youtube video to help them feel at home first. Pronunciation and word stress was an important part of this lesson for new NZers. I just noticed a mistake which I have tried to change - Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Mt Everest in 1953, not 73!

The present printable, downloadable handout is recommended for adults at Beginner (pre-A1) and Elementary (A1) level. It was designed for developing your learners' Spelling, Speaking and Reading skills. It is focused on the topic and words of Culture, intercultural communication, cross-cultural communication.

Hi! I live in New Zealand and teach low-level and often pre-literate refugees and migrants where the emphasis is on communication before proficiency! Speaking, pronunciation, listening, reading and writing are the skills these students want and need first to survive in their new environment. Very interesting!
