This is a reading. listening and writing worksheet, which includes communicative activities and so can involve speaking too. It's based on the popular Christmas song 'Fairytale of New York'. They first listen to the song and try to identify the mood, there is a list of moods given for students to choose from. Then they read part of a newspaper article and do reading comprehension and skills activities and there is a focus on some language aspects like phrasal verbs and prefixes also. They then listen to the song again and identify different verses as they listen (e.g. say which verse is about being in a bar, fond memories, bad memories etc.) They'll probably need to listen a couple of times and discuss with each other. The lyrics are included on a separate handout for them to check their answers. The writing activity is based on the phrasal verbs from the article, Ss are asked to write a story using them.

The above downloadable printable is recommended for high school students and adults at Intermediate (B1), Upper-intermediate (B2), Advanced (C1) and Proficient (C2) level. It is a useful material for practising Phrasal verbs in English, and is useful for working on your class' Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills. It features the theme of Christmas.
