French toast is an American dish made of bread soaked in beaten eggs and then fried. Although it is a typical American breakfast dish, it is a very old recipe pertaining to other cultures. In France, it is called Pain Perdu, in Spain "Torrija", in Germany "Arme Ritter", in Brazil "Rabanada" among others. In some countries it is a traditional dessert recipe for Lent and Holy Week.
