Simplified background on the origin of Halloween, focusing on symbols.

The present downloadable teaching material is recommended for elementary school students at Elementary (A1) level. It is great for practising Nouns in English, and can be used for improving your pupils' Spelling and Reading skills. It is about the theme of Halloween.

from South Africa

I teach grade 5 in South Africa. My youngest learner is 9 and my oldest, is 13. There are 5 classes across our grade, each with an average of 28 learners, 142 across the grade. the school I teach at, has a demographic of 90% African Learners, 7% Indian Learners, 2% Coloured Learners and 1% White Learners. 3/4 of these children have Zulu as their mother tongue and English as their second language, which is also the teaching medium. I teach Afrikaans across the grade and this is then their third language. I also tach Life Orientation(life skills) and Arts and Culture (drama, dance, visual art and music) across the grade. In all honesty, teaching is getting more difficult as most of these Learners come from a background where there is little or no father figure influence, mothers are unwed or there are no parents at all and the Learner is cared for by the grandparents, normally the gran. I was really glad to stumble upon this site as the worksheets are so well geared towards the learning difficulties my kids experience. I'm looking forward to using them to make learning moree fun :D
