This poem is well-known in Russia. The song is sung every year when we commemorate the soldiers. Initially it was devoted to the soldiers who died during World War II. I think every country has a special day for commemorating its warriors and soldiers who defended the country. For example, Remembrance Day.

If you live in a Russian-speaking country I think your students may be interesting in working with the English version. You can use it either on the Defender's Day or on the Victory Day.

A British musician Marc Almond sang this song in English. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq-U6InUCLM

The task for students is to put the words in brackets into Participle I. There is an addidional text. A teacher can either tell this information to the students or let the students work with the text.

This text is used for teaching non-commercial purposes.

The present printable, downloadable handout is intended for high school students and adults at Intermediate (B1) level. It is aimed at revising Participles: Present participle (e.g. DOING) in English, and is useful for improving your students' Spelling skills. It is focused on the topic and words of Memories.
