There are 3 parts of exercise. In the first part, students have to fill the blanks with "was" or "were". In the second part, students have to rewrite the sentences into the intended forms. In the last part, students have to describe the pictures using simple past (to be), e.g.: the boy was angry yesterday; yesterday was windy.

The above downloadable handout is intended for elementary school students at Elementary (A1) level. It is aimed at practising Past simple tense in English, and is a valuable material for enhancing your groups' Writing skills. It focuses on the vocabulary topic of Countries.
