This picture is excellent raw material for an ESL class. I especially like the fact that students have to spot freaky things on their own, which adds to the engagement factor of this task. Wanting to share their findings gives them a genuine reason to communicate in English. This EFL/ESL worksheet will work both as a speaking activity and a writing activity. There is one thing I think could be improved: the second page drills there is / there are, which is appropriate for beginners and elementary level students. The level of the vocabulary included in the task, however, is way too advanced for beginners (e.g. monstrous, tentacles, counter top, coat sleeve, dangling, gills). I would suggest to either dumb down the vocab in the task or replace it with a task, which is appropriate for intermediate or higher level students. Notwithstanding this observation, I really like the choice of picture and the core tasks. I will definitely use this worksheet sometime! Kudos!

Kisdobos, thanks for your comments and I fully agree with them. Initially the 'there is/there are' exercise was just the key and I think it should be left as that - just the key. You are right, if students can tackle this sheet, they don't need practice with there is and there are!

This is a beautiful and fun assignment. I hope the kids will like it as much as I do. I like the fact that it combines reading with vocab, a bit of grammar and a game.
