Our teachers are dedicated professionals who share a love of learning and an ability to inspire children to achieve great things.

They have a:
strong academic background with higher degrees a common feature;
professional teaching qualifications, mostly from the UK;
current DBS or equivalent Police check;
demonstrable commitment to continuing professional development;
teaching experience in good independent, UK maintained or COBIS accredited schools;
commitment to co-curricular education and a willingness to support it actively.

BISC is committed to safeguarding children and young people through safer recruitment practices. The School's recruitment protocols adhere to the standards set by the Independent Schools Inspectorate within the British Schools Overseas framework. Candidate references will be checked and qualifications attested. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) or local police checks are required together with a Statement of Medical Fitness.
Developing Our People
Learning is at the core of what we do. Our teachers' knowledge, experience and expertise are recognised, shared and developed.

We believe that continuous professional development (CPD) is an entitlement for, and the responsibility of, all staff. We believe that CPD is a continuous and pervasive process and our staff value this sharing of learning.

A comprehensive, structured and thorough induction programme introduces new staff to our community and ways of working at BISC. This will involve the allocation of mentors to offer support and guidance, and supportive meeting with managers throughout the initial period. Our Staff Welfare Coordinator ensures new staff are also appropriately introduced to Cairo.

A comprehensive Professional Review policy is well established and fully embedded at BISC. This process is driven by staff and used to identify strengths and areas they wish to develop further. This cycle of reflective review, action and evaluation drives the vision and the strategic plan for CPD. All staff are entitled to an annual professional review where CPD requirements are identified, agreed and fully supported. The process ensures a positive growth of professional practice; the impact is classroom based and ultimately on the learning experiences of our students.

Job location

The British International School, Cairo is a co-educational school with 1,090 pupils aged 3-18 (500 pupils in the Senior School). An accredited member of COBIS, BSME and IAPS, and an IB World School, BISC is one of the leading academic schools in the region. Located on the fringes of Cairo, the School enjoys the benefits of a modern, purpose-built, spacious campus with state of the art facilities. Since relocating to the current site in 2008 the School has enjoyed continuous growth, doubling in size in ten years.

Cairo itself is a bustling city, home to some of the world’s most iconic ancient monuments, with good access to other countries in the region, Europe and Asia. It is a city with a rich cultural heritage, a crossroads between Africa, the Middle East and Europe. With a population close to twenty million Cairo is a city of huge contrasts and provides endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.

The School was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in February 2015. The quality of pupils’ achievements, learning, attitudes and skills were judged to be excellent as were the quality of teaching, pupils’ personal development, pastoral care and the quality of leadership and management. The School’s next inspection is scheduled for November 2019.

Further information about the School can be found at www.bisc.edu.eg.
