As a camp counselor your job is to join in, have fun and immerse the campers in English. To really enjoy the experience it is important to familiarise yourself with the position at our camps.

Your role:
Make camp a fun and safe environment for the campers under your care.
Infuse US history and culture into activities and English class, using the daily theme as a basis.
Implement French childcare regulations & cultural standards.
Only speak in English.
Work as a part of a team!

Task overview:
Communicating clearly with campers and helping campers communicate with you.
Planning, preparing, and participating in the camp program (ESL classes, activities, evening programs)
Creating and performing skits, songs, cheers, etc for the daily assembly (congress)
Creating teaching aids (posters, charts, etc)
Team brainstorming according to the daily theme
Bring your experience and skills to the team
Completing necessary paperwork (lesson plans, camper language reviews, etc)

List of Responsibilites (Job Description)

S/He will have to, in collaboration with the other members of the counselor team, take into account the directives of Site Director:
· Help setting up and/or packing up the site, when necessary;
· Chaperone camper transportation to and from camp when necessary (bus, train …);
· Supervise the arrival and departure of participants to and from the site;
· Organize, lead and supervise athletic and cultural activities and outings, in accordance with the program that the team has established together;
· Create and lead English Classes adapted to the level of the participants;
· Organize and participate in the daily assembly, along with the other team members;
· Produce lesson plans of the English classes given and give them to the Site Director;
· Submit the activities schedule for the session to the Site Director before camper arrival;
· Participate in making the camp program run smoothly,
· Decorate and personalize the camp site, following the guidelines of the Site Director;
· Supervise and insure the security of security of the children placed under his/her responsibility at every moment;
· Inform the Site Director of any absence from the site, including days and evenings off;
· Follow the guidelines of the Site Director when organizing all activities with the children;
· Conscientiously complete and provide Child Tracking Forms for each of the children, taking into account both their behaviour and their linguistic abilities;
· Propose, interpret, and develop new activities tied to American Village’s cultural themes;
· Execute all other task relevant to the role of Camp Counselor.

The length of employment depends on the camp schedule, and your availability. Contracts can therefore be as short as one camp, but are generally 6 or 8 weeks in the spring and fall, and 4 or 8 weeks in the summer.

Citizenship / Visa Status Requirements
You are either:

(a) of US American, Canadian, Australian, or New Zealand nationality, traveling as a legal tourist.

This temporary employment does not extend the length of time that you are allowed to stay in the Schengen zone as a tourist (90 days in a 6 month period).

(b) of US American, Canadian, Australian, or New Zealand nationality, living as a foreign resident in France.

You possess an existing French work visa that covers the duration of your employment.

(c) British or Irish

Who we are looking for

3. Qualification
   

   No degrees expected

   (You possess at least a high school diploma from a school within an anglophone country (English must be THE official national language of the country you grew up in and went to school in). A diploma to teach English is not required, but is a plus (TEFL, TESOL, CELTA etc).)

4. Clear criminal history
5. 20 years old is the minimum age requirement for foreign counselors. A typical applicant is between 20 and 35 years old
6. First-hand knowledge of North American culture
7. Must be able to enter Schengen Zone as a tourist (for example: US or Canadians are allowed this with a valid passport.)

What we offer

1. All salaries are established before French taxes, and one full month salary represents 26 days worked. In accordance with French law, counselors receive at least 1 day off per week. Counselors are paid monthly by direct deposit into their bank account. Cou

4. Each counselor receives a €50 train travel defrayal to their camp.
5. All housing and meals are covered during the contract with bedding included (€30 a day per person, paid by American Village for you).
6. Free laundry services available on site at least once a week.
7. No fees to apply, and no fees associated with your temporary work permit.
