General Information
Teachers are scheduled to work 8 hour shifts either Monday - Friday or Tuesday - Saturday. (A typical working shift runs from 1:00 pm until 9:30 pm, or from 9:30 am until 6:30 pm, including a break.) These schedules are set and will not change from week to week.

Full time teachers will work at both our Midori and Tenpaku locations. On days which you have to commute to our Tenpaku school, you will still report to the main location and the school will cover all transportation costs from there.

Within a week, teachers will teach an average of 25 classes, with each class usually lasting 45-50 minutes. The students range in age from as young as 2 years old to adults, with the majority of the students being children. Classes will have a maximum of 6 students.

As a teacher at ABC Plus, your responsibility will include, but are not limited to:

-designing both engaging and detailed lesson plans for each class weekly
-choosing class topics, children's songs and crafts, choosing appropriate textbooks, creating games which are age appropriate and relevant to the class topics
-conducting class in a professional, organized and engaging manner
teaching demonstration lessons and allowing potential students to observe existing classes
-giving an explanation of what was covered in class to parents
-keeping records of each students' progress and writing biannual progress reports
-participating in ABC Plus Events, such as local excursions and holiday parties for students
-attending weekly staff meetings and participating in continued staff development

During each workday, teachers are typically scheduled around 3 hours of planning time in which they will be expected to thoroughly prepare their lessons ahead of time. Each teacher will have their own desk in a shared office space.

Students & Class Types

Here at ABC Plus we cater to a variety of students, although about 70% are aged 15 and under.

Our youngest students, aged 2-3 years old, attend Kid's Plus classes where they are exposed to English through songs, games and craft activities.

Teaching schedule

Teachers are required to prepare sufficiently, so we ask that they arrive at the school 30 minutes before the first class. Sometimes teachers will have demonstration lessons, which last 30 minutes to introduce a potential student to a proper class.

What we offer

  1. During the 2-week initial training period, new teachers will share an apartment with one of the current ABC Plus teachers. After the training period is over, the new teacher will either take over this apartment as their own or move into another apartment.
  2. All teachers live in apartments which are arranged by the school, which are a 5-10 minute walk from the school. Monthly rent is approximately 60,000 yen, which will be deducted directly from the teachers' paycheck, as well as the cost of utilities, suc
  3. All vacation time is predetermined by ABC Plus and are listed on the schools' annual calendar. There are approximately 6 weeks of set vacation time a year; normally two weeks in December/January, one week in May, one week in June/July, one week in Augu
  4. The starting monthly salary is 250,000 yen.
  5. You will be paid in cash on the 10th of every month for the previous months work. If the 10th of the month falls on a weekend, you will be paid on the following workday. If payday falls on a scheduled vacation, you will be paid on the first workday followi
  6. Income tax will be deducted straight from your paycheck each month. However, residential tax will not be directly deducted. You will be responsible for paying your residential tax on your own.
  7. You will be compensated for any overtime hours that you are scheduled to work.
  8. In addition, there are opportunities to receive up to 20,000 yen per month in bonuses. Also, upon completion of your contract you will receive a bonus of between 100,000 and 170,000 yen depending on your schedule throughout the year.

In August 2006 we opened our second school in Tenpaku ward, Ueda. In Novemebr 2017 we opened our third school in Showa ward.
