Work as employee
Teachers are scheduled to work 8 hour shifts either Monday - Friday or Tuesday - Saturday. (A typical working shift runs from 1:00 pm until 9:30 pm, or from 9:30 am until 6:30 pm, including a break.) These schedules are set and will not change from week to week.
Full time teachers will work at both our Midori and Tenpaku locations. On days which you have to commute to our Tenpaku school, you will still report to the main location and the school will cover all transportation costs from there.
Within a week, teachers will teach an average of 25 classes, with each class usually lasting 45-50 minutes. The students range in age from as young as 2 years old to adults, with the majority of the students being children. Classes will have a maximum of 6 students.
As a teacher at ABC Plus, your responsibility will include, but are not limited to:
-designing both engaging and detailed lesson plans for each class weekly
-choosing class topics, children's songs and crafts, choosing appropriate textbooks, creating games which are age appropriate and relevant to the class topics
-conducting class in a professional, organized and engaging manner
teaching demonstration lessons and allowing potential students to observe existing classes
-giving an explanation of what was covered in class to parents
-keeping records of each students' progress and writing biannual progress reports
-participating in ABC Plus Events, such as local excursions and holiday parties for students
-attending weekly staff meetings and participating in continued staff development
During each workday, teachers are typically scheduled around 3 hours of planning time in which they will be expected to thoroughly prepare their lessons ahead of time. Each teacher will have their own desk in a shared office space.
Students & Class Types
Here at ABC Plus we cater to a variety of students, although about 70% are aged 15 and under.
Our youngest students, aged 2-3 years old, attend Kid's Plus classes where they are exposed to English through songs, games and craft activities.
Teachers are required to prepare sufficiently, so we ask that they arrive at the school 30 minutes before the first class. Sometimes teachers will have demonstration lessons, which last 30 minutes to introduce a potential student to a proper class.
