As a full-time teacher with IH Querétaro, you will be scheduled for a maximum of 25 in-class hours per week, and can expect to spend the rest of your work schedule preparing lesson plans, marking exams, uploading marks and attendance, and attending professional development meetings. If the school is not able to assign the 25 in-class hours, you are expected to be available during the Monday-Saturday work week to assist the Director of Studies in developing materials, conducting entrance exams, invigilating and administering Cambridge exams, giving sample classes, and carrying out any other professional tasks deemed necessary. You are also obliged to attend all professional development meetings when scheduled.

Classes are given from Monday through Saturday in companies, at IH, and at other sites in the city (and occasionally in nearby municipalities) in accordance with client demands. Scheduling for these classes during the week can be divided into three different blocks: early morning (e.g., 7am-12:30pm), mid-day (12:30pm-5pm) and evening (e.g., 5pm -9pm), and on Saturdays from 9am-2pm. Scheduling of classes is fairly constant, but is largely dictated by our clients, so changes to this can be required on short notice. Our students are of all ages (e.g., children, teens, adults, seniors), socio-economic backgrounds, nationalities, and may be full-time students or working professionals.

Travelling time to and from companies is approximately 60-90 minutes on public transportation. In as much as it is possible, we try to assign teachers to classes that are in companies located near teachers’ accommodations, and arrange car-pooling with teachers that have cars and are teaching at the same, or nearby location. We also try to strike a balance between classes at IHQRO, and in the companies.

About the school and the City:
Querétaro is a vibrant and dynamic language and teacher training center located just 15-minutes on foot from the historical downtown area, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. At every turn there are beautiful churches, historical sites and monuments like the Cerro de las Campanas or the famous Aqueduct, boutique hotels, museums and charming well-kept gardens and plazas. The City of Querétaro is also close to many popular travel destinations that are considered “Magical towns” such as Peña de Bernal, Cadereyta de Montes, San Miguel de Allende and Tequisquiapan, where students can easily spend the day exploring, and learning about local culture. In Tequisquiapan in the spring, for example, the International Festival of Wine and Cheese is celebrated and offers visitors the chance to sample a wide range of Mexican wines and cheeses, and enjoy a rich variety of entertainment events. Querétaro is also close to other popular cities and states such as Guadalajara (347km / 4h); Guanajuato (123km / 90min), a colonial city of legends; and Michoacán (263km / 180min), famous for the spectacular views of the annual Monarch butterfly migration.

What we offer

1. Salary: $12,000.00 MXN - $16,000 MXN gross monthly - dependent on credentials and EFL teaching experience
2. Spanish language classes are provided free of charge, and scheduling of these will depend on the teacher's class schedule and language level, as well as the availability of the Spanish language staff availability. Teachers can also choose to take a DE
3. IHQRO is a certified Cambridge ESOL Platinum Examination Centre, and as such, you could be trained as a Cambridge speaking examiner and invigilator, and pending approval by Cambridge, become part of the IH Querétaro team that carries out the Cambridge spea
4. Social security (public healthcare) is also paid for by IHQRO for all full-time teachers once they have been granted their work visas.
5. Visa: All teachers coming to work in Mexico must procure a work permit before entering the country, and IH Querétaro oversees and pays for permit expenses incurred in Mexico.
6. Flights: $5,000 Mexican pesos (in the form of reimbursement upon completion of contract)
7. Accommodation: IH Querétaro does not provide long-term paid accommodation. However, we do arrange and pay for accommodation for teachers during their first week in Querétaro.
8. Holidays: Teachers are entitled to approximately 1 month of paid holidays during the year - 2 weeks in December, the first few days of January, and one week at Easter.
