No matter what the background and level of Spanish of the applicants are, there is a suitable Meddeas scheme for them. In this sense, recent graduates, undergraduates, and school leavers have options to teach in Spain. Participants will enroll a structured training program and teach English in a Spanish private or state-funded private school, gaining international experience, and adding transferable skills to their resume/CV.
This is a chance to discover a new culture and language, paying no fees, and with a guaranteed monthly income, which is more than enough to live in Spain.
The Role while Teaching in Spain
A Language Assistant is a native-level speaker of English, French or German, who supports the school’s language teachers with conversation practice. The tasks differ from the ones in a teaching assistant role and include encouraging oral practice of the foreign language; explaining the culture of their home country; helping in other subjects such as science, art, P.E.; acting as a role model for correct pronunciation and grammar; and collaborating with teaching staff in creating teaching materials and planning lessons.
This is an excellent opportunity, but at the same time it is a challenging experience that will without a doubt get you out of your comfort zone. It will require serious commitment and involvement from participants. If you are just interested in effortless paid tourism, we would advise you not to apply to teach English in Spain with Meddeas. After the first few days at school, you will be asked to use your own initiative, find resources and prepare your own engaging and fun activities or games.
Our programs are aimed at native-level English, German or French speakers with little or no teaching experience, although experienced candidates are welcome to apply as well. Depending on your background and interests, you can apply for different programs (taking into account that competence in the Spanish language is not required and no previous teaching experience is needed):
Advanced: degree in Education or in English (French or German) OR any degree + TEFL/TESOL certificate
Graduate: all degrees welcome
Speakers: any degree OR university students OR gap years
Meddeas offers you support from professional and experienced staff during the challenging process of moving to a new country and choosing a valuable training.
Your professional interests and academic background, as well as the preferences in terms of schools and student ages, will be taken into account during the demanding allocation process, which takes place in Meddeas after candidates are accepted.
If you are accepted and eventually teach English in Spain with Meddeas, you will live a once in a lifetime experience. Moreover, you will develop highly demanded skills that you can list on your resume/CV, which are applicable to any potential career path: intercultural skills, cultural awareness, creativity, native language awareness, Spanish language skills, team working, public speaking, patience, maturity, autonomy… that’s what former participants value the most about our teaching abroad scheme.
