This takes place in the clients company, usually in the conference room, a class room or the students office. You will get these jobs through Canterbury English and through other agencies and English schools. Sometimes you are teaching a one-on-one, sometimes you have two students and at others you will have groups of up to ten students. The usual thing is a one-on-one, two students or a small group of 3-4 students. The one-on-one could be a secretary or the CEO, with anything in between being possible.

You may be teaching In-Company from one to six different companies in a week. We always advice teachers that the more flexible and open you are to teach adults, children, business, specialty, Skpye, Telephone English, the easier it will be to give you a full schedule. However we do understand that some teachers prefer only children and other prefer only adults. We will take a note of this and you can choose the best students that fit what you are comfortable teaching.

If you have come to Spain with a degree in business administration or you have worked in the corporate world, then this is a great opportunity to increase your knowledge of the business world and give an international dimension to your Resume (CV). You will be walking into important multinational and national companies and will find out all about how they work, as well as teaching low-level, middle level and top management, so you get all the different perspectives.

In your class you find out all about the mechanics of how the company works. It’s like doing a practical MBA and this is highly beneficial for your future, may it be in business, teaching or any other field. The fact that you have taught English in top companies in a foreign country adds a key ingredient to your background and character. It is character building, experience building and resume building all in one!

Academies such as Canterbury English will contract you to teach classes in a school to children. These classes are normally an hour, 1.5 hours or two hours. You will be travelling around the city.

What a New Teacher Needs to Do to Gain a Schools Confidence?
Naturally for Canterbury English and other schools to confide in you, you will have to be punctual, well-organized, trustworthy and conscientious. As we guarantee you 10-15 hours, we can’t be quite as demanding as other schools are. You will have to show other schools that they can rely on you. When the school starts getting good feedback on you from your students, then they will count on you and mentally earmark you for the new good incoming classes. Just like at Canterbury, we say “Joe is getting excellent reviews from his In-house clients, so give him priority for a higher paying company class.”

The New Teacher VS the Veteran Teacher
You as the new teacher with the experience you will have with Canterbury English´s real paying client have natural advantages and disadvantages compared to the veteran teacher. The veteran has been doing it for years and knows the ins and outs of the market to get a good schedule as well as knowing their stuff concerning grammar, phonetics and have seen many different types of students, all different levels and have encountered all different predicaments you can get into and have found solutions for them. This is all very dynamic and interesting. The veteran can also charge more than you can for their classes and knows where to find the good jobs.

However, you as the new teacher, have something the veteran may not still have and which is the essential secret ingredient that will help you set yourself up. And this is a heavy dose of enthusiasm, interest, liveliness and fun. The veteran often, like anything in live, has done it all before, but you haven’t. It’s like a first date. You may be nervous, but your eyes are sparkling with enthusiasm and as you give the class you’re thinking I can’t believe I’m being paid for this. It’s so much fun I’d do it for free. You smile and laugh a lot more. Real smiles and laughs from the heart. The student picks up on your enthusiasm and this actually helps them learn better and faster than the veteran who’s glazed eyes and yawning expression won’t put fire in the student’s learning process. But you will and that is the key secret ingredient that will help you rapidly increase you spectrum of students and jobs.

The English Teachers Lifestyle
Teaching English in a flexible way such as this gives you a break from the 9 to 5 world, which is probably why you came here in the first place. Whether it be just after you finished University, and before you jump into the working world, a break from the 9-5 office world or after you’ve paid your dues in that world. You live a much freer lifestyle when you work as an English teacher. You also have the amazing opportunity to meet fascinating people and you become a part of their lives and they become a part of yours. About the employer

Canterbury English was founded by Richard Clarke in 1991 and Canterbury English TEFL was founded in 1998 by Richard and James Clarke and John Bouse

After many years of teaching experience in Madrid, and after running an English school for almost a decade, providing work for English teachers and training them informally, we thought that it was time to start our own official Teachers Training program, with a guaranteed job included, which we have been providing to thousands of our graduates ever since.

What’s the difference between a TEFL course that includes a job and one that, at best, just farms you out, promising you a job. Some, hedging their bets, say jobs go to our top graduates, while others even go so far out on a limb (or on a plank) as saying they have 100% job placement (farming out) success rate!!!

Promises, promises, promises! Politicians make campaign promises…used car dealers make almost-brand-new promises… mom and pop make mom and pop promises… teenage lovers make romantic promises… and sometimes… they fulfill their promises … but sometimes… they don’t.

And if they don’t and you have sold everything and have moved countries to do this course with its promised job, you feel the terrible uncertainty Wendy must have felt, when Pirate Captain Hook made her walk the plank over the Never Never Land sea, with a big bad Crocodile waiting down below, opening its jaws wide enough so you can see the alarm clock about to go off!!!!

But don’t worry, Peter Pan, dressed in the green garb of Canterbury English, will fly down out of the ever-ever land blue, Madrid sky and come to your rescue.

Yes, we also promise everyone a job (scouts honor!), because we can hire 150 teachers a year, since we’ve been around since 1991, almost three decades, and have tons of real bona-fida work, at all levels of English class teaching. But if, for some reason, we can’t fulfill our promise, we add in a money back guarantee. Not for the whole program, because you have a TEFL certificate, a Spanish course, a year work visa and a job, but for 25% of the TEFL course.

Although this hasn’t happened yet, maybe, in the worst case scenario, we could only give you 8 or 9 hours of work a week (instead of the 10 hour minimum), before our 30 day, after the TEFL course is finished deadline is up. So we give you 300 Euros back to make up for this, and we prioritize you for more classes, so as few days as possible go by after the 30 day limit, to get you into the 10-15 hour a week Class Safety Zone.
