This Presentation is related to the series of three grammar worksheets called "Ability or Authorisation, Grammar practice", which you can also find on this website, in the "Printable worksheets" part.  



On the first lesson, I do a traditional grammar presentation, then students work in groups, and on the second lesson, I give them one photocopy per group of my handwritten answers - photocopies that I collect back at the end of the marking time; so they must mark their work themselves.



Assessment can be planned based on the third worksheet.

This is a table divided into past/present/future to teach students when they should use "can't", "could" or "be able to", depending on the context. Of course, not every use of this expressions has been included. I've added a few examples, which you could further expand with your class.

Students will complete tasks about the characters in Stranger Things using "could, can and will be able to" to practice talking about the past, the present and the future.

A presentation on modals for someone familiar with can and will, as well as Past Simple. It uses the "Brave" theme. Almost all examples are direct speech of the cartoon's characters. Lots of oral exercises.

Should, must, have to, can, could be able to

Young people love comic book super heroes, so I present a number of them with their super powers and the student learns to say, "I would like to have (this super power)." or "I would like to be able to (use this super power").
