Dos and Donts of a job interview. It gives clues about the important issues by a job interview. It is very useful for business English or general English subjects of business.

Job Interview

A Business English presentation outlining the purpose of a job interview.

Students will learn what to say and what NOT to say at a job interview. The presentation also contains what to do BEFORE the job interview, and a small action to do AFTER the interview-an action that has gained many people the job over other applicants.

Suitable for Intermediate and above level students, and best presented by a teacher.

JOB INTERVIEWS

Interview questions are presented one at a time with a corresponding job title.  The students' goal is to keep the job title in mind and try to quickly create a good answer for their partner, the interviewer.  Anticipation is emphasized as a key tool in interview prep.   

Interview Questions

This dialog tries to introduce a few challenging vocabulary terms and a couple of longer, more sustained sentences.  It may include some attempts at humor.  I\'ll usually read through it myself and have students translate into their own language to build comprehension, and then we\'ll take turns reading/playing the different roles.

Job Interview (several tasks)

This is Beyoncé's interview. Pupils have to describe the first slide: a celebrity, a journalist = an interview. 

The teacher plays the celebrity and pupils play the journalist. They ask the questions corresponding to the information. The teacher (celebrity) answers the questions.

Students have the chance to practice the functional language of a job interview. The presentation contains multiple tasks on memorizing the useful phrases for the 'interviewer' and the 'candidate'. Besides, they're offered some role-play activities as the production part of the lesson.

Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
