Spot the difference

Students  must find a set number of differences between two otherwise similar images,  illustrations or photographs that have been altered with photo manipulation.

A type of puzzle,

Students spot the difference between two pictures. Target language: 'There is...' 'There are...' and prepositions.

Students look at the two similar images and the first student to find and explain the difference gets one point for their team.

This is a review PPT. I uploaded the basic version, but it can be modified. 

Rules:

 -make 2 teams,  have the students come up with the team names, and mark the names on the board

-for the basic version, ask a review question and the winner gets to choose a spot on the grid

-possibilities for points are +2, +1, +10, -10, and swap 

-for different versions, just add your own pictures

ppt 2007 only.  This is for two teams.  Select which team goes first X or O.  If X or O cannot match the sound of the number to the number in 10 seconds, that team loses the chance to answer that spot again and the other team will receive a chance at the same spot with a different number of couse.

How  observant are  you 

Semiformal email to Santa Claus. Just watch the video and write the email sentences in the correct order. Think about what differences between a formal email and this one you can spot. You don't have to make up any content, just read and put the bits in the right order.

Christmas

This is an example of an informal business email. Just watch the video and put the bits in order. Also, can you spot at least two major differences between the formal ones and this one?

Students learn and review body parts leading into an exciting experience to continue building familiarity while playing the game ‘Simon Says’. 
(All instructions for games in slides are included in the notes section of the PowerPoint.)


Afterwards, students begin learning about the different monsters and animals generally associated with Halloween and practice using comparisons like scary, scarier, and scariest. This leads into more Halloween themed fun with a ‘MONSTER MASH’ where each students creates their own monster by combining different human and animal body parts. The ‘MONSTER MASH’ is a competition designed where students describe their which animals their monsters respective body parts come from in groups and the class decides which of the monsters are scarier than other and the scariest overall. 


There is also an extension activity (if more material is needed) which begins by covering the Halloween tradition of making Jack O’Lanterns. Ten example Jack O’Lanterns are shown and student begin to practice the use of good, better, and best while comparing these with each other. Then each student designs their own Jack O’Lantern for another ‘comparison competition’ of good, better, and best.
