A selection of English ESL superstitions ppt slides

This PowerPoint is based on a video by Misterduncan which you can find in YouTube. The purpose is to have students discuss the topic based on their own ideas and the information given in the video in order to practice speaking/listening skills and pronunciation. It is also a great way for them to add to their vocabulary bank, talk about their own experiences and have some fun with an unusual but worldwide topic such as superstition.

In Great Britain it is lucky to meet a black cat. Black Cats are featured on many good luck greetings cards and birthday cards in England.



British Superstitions

This is a power point I made for my TP at university. I started the lesson with a group  discussion of the students' superstitions in their country. The grammar focuses on the first conditional (if + will) as well as vocabulary related to Haloween. All you need to add is to make a mix and match activity with the Halloween vocab and their definitions. They will need to see these words in any type of context to help them. I hope you like it!

TED talk superstitions

By reading about some British superstitions and deciding whether they are true or false students get familiarised with the first conditional. The last slides include working out the use and form, as well as an easy online practice. Students can then write about their country's superstitions.

Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well
