Slide presentation, to visually show the different possible symptoms of familiar illnesses.

Symptoms

Student / Group chooses one card and then tries to find a second one to match it. Click on the picture to uncover it. If they match, the student/group gets a point and the squares remain uncovered. The student/group plays again, until he/they make a mistake.



If the cards don't match, click on the button in the cards to cover them again. It's the next player's turn.

Memory Game - Symptoms

Presentation/game to review the illnesses vocabulary; show to students some symptoms and let them guess the ilness. At the end, they will be able to express what is the worst pain or illness. REMEMBER TO PRESENT THE POWER POINT IN FULL SCREEN TO AVOID SHOWING THE ANSWERS AND PICTURES.

TOPIC TREE-HEALTH

Medicine, doctors, patients, pills, symptoms, injuries, and illnesses are some of the targets and topics contained here.  Gap fills, picture description, and discussion questions make up most of the activities.  

Medicine and Sickness 

This ppt. shows symptoms of flu virus with illustrations and what you should do to stop it spreading. Last slide is only applicable to the UK. This should help students to tell a doctor what is wrong.

This is a presentation that has a range of activities-

1. students name cold symptoms

2. students give advice for colds

3. students listen to an audio clip about 'catch it , bin it, kill it' (picture is a hyperlink to the audio clip

4. Students answers questions about  'catch it , bin it, kill it' 

5. Teacher gives the students empty medicine packets and the students answer the questions on the board by finding the answers on the medicine packets 



This last task is really great for ESL students, as it is an important life skill.



for my E2 students, I played the audio clip from 0:29 and asked them what they thought 'catch it , bin it, kill it' meant.

At the doctor's

This hour long lesson plan involves teaching illness vocabulary and how to describe our illnesses with the verb 'to have' and 'to feel'. The students will also learn about symptoms of these illnesses plus how to give advice using 'should' and 'shouldn't'. This will provide them with all the vocabulary they need to perform their own doctor/patient roleplay.
