Guess the Vietnamese celebrities game. Lots of fun for most kids from 10 to 18.



Hidden pictures are revealed slowly to add drama to a warm up or just for fun. No grammar fouc as such, just a simple guess who game. 



Divide the class into groups and whoever guesses the celebrity first gets the points. 



If you need to extend this game, ask a trivia question about each celebrity.



Easy to edit and add your own pictures. Just use photo replace in PowerPoint. This version is from Windows 7 so it is easy for most to open. 



ESL Warm Up Ideas - Vietnamese Celebrities - Hidden Pictures

For this activity, you need the presentation uploaded here and a number of bags with 36 pieces of paper with numbers from 1 to 36 on them. The presentation is projected on the screen so that everybody in the class can see it. The students work in groups and each group has one of the bags on the table in fron of them. The students take turns and draw the pieces of paper with numbers from the bag. When a student draws a piece of paper, he or she looks at the number on it and doesn’t show it to anybody else. After that, he or she looks at the screen and finds the word that corresponds to the number on the piece of paper (for example, if the student draws a piece of paper that says 17, he or she looks at the screen and finds out that the word is a whale).The student then has to make other students guess which word he has drawn by explaining its meaning (for example, he can say that it is the biggest animal in the world). When a student guesses the word, he or she keeps the piece of paper. Then it is the next student’s turn. The student who guesses most words wins. 



This activity is basically a variant of the well-known game where you write the words directly on the pieces of paper (instead of writing there numbers) and do not need any presentation with words. The advatage of the present version is that once you have made your bags with numbers, it is much easier for you to change the words that you want the students to practice. You do not need to make many new bags with the same words in each of them, you just create one new presentation and use the same pieces of paper again and again. With one of my students that I teach one to one, we have already used more than fifty such presentations. It is pleasant to look at the first ones  together and see how easy the words are for him now.



I’m not sure if my explanation of the rules and advantages of this activity is understandable. It is much more important than the presentation itself, so if you have any suggestions for improvement, please let me know.

Definitions bags

A simple game to practice vocabulary and speaking. The students are divided into groups (the size of the groups depends on the number of students in your class). The first group starts by sending one student to the front of the classroom. This student is standing in front of the class, facing the rest of the students from his group so that he cannot see what is on the screen behind him. The teacher (or a students from one of the other groups) starts the presentation and measures 2 minutes (or some other amount of time). The students from the first group, who can now see the first word (an actor) on the screen, are trying to explain it to the one who is facing them and cannot see it. They cannot use any words that contain the same root (e. g. act). When the student guesses the word, the teacher clicks and the next word appears. For each correctly guessed word, the team gets a point (It is a good idea to mark the points after each correctly guessed word with a short chalk line on the blackboard). If the students do not know the meaning of the word or cannot think of a way to explain it, they can say „next“ and skip that particular slide, but they can do this three times at most. After two minutes, the teacher says „the time is up“ and counts all the points. Then it is the second team’s turn. After all teams have had a go, the next round can start. The vocabulary in this particular presentation is at A1, A2 or occasionally B1 level.

This worksheet is a presentation aimed at teaching young learners the use of the present continuous with emphasis on verb to be (is, am, are) and the present participle form of verbs (-ing). it has picture prompts thats makes it suitable for young learners who still cannot read but also comes with trace words and the presentation can be printed and given to learners to practice writing skill as well.

The Present Continuous

This is a presentation I give students after they take an online test.  (Website provided).  It tells about the different frequencies of vocabulary and gives them an insight into how to study more effectively.  I use it with mid level students who feel like they have 'hit the wall'.
