This lesson uses the context of schools to learn how to use 'have to'/''doesn't have to' (present simple).  It includes some controlled practice activities.

This is suitable for UK based ESOL learners, in particular parents with children in the UK school system.  

As well as learning the target grammar, it can be incorporated into a lesson in which students learn about the UK school system.

It could be adapted to use with learners in other countries, to compare different school systems.

The battleship board game allows students to practice questions with Have you ever ... (Yes, I have. No, I haven't).



First, each student puts their ships in the left grid. They shoot by saying the question with an appropriate row and column. The lef grid is used for marking missed shots (dots) and successful ones (crosses). If the ship is completely destroyed they say SUNK.



If sb doesn't understand they use some phrases like “Sorry?”.
