Listening comprehension activity on the short documentary "Art that was never finished" by John Green for PBS The Art Assignment. In it, the author discusses why sometimes artworks are left unfinished and the cultural and historical significance of these type of works. Short vocabulary activity and comprehension questions about the video. 

Unfinished Artworks

Studying the elements that make up an artwork helps to develop student's art vocabulary and increase the awareness of art. The task consists of observing an art work and then answering specific questions that point towards basic review of an artwork.

I usually print this mixture of images onto several colors of construction paper; cut them out and laminate them. I give a set of four cards to new young learners to keep in their pencil case or some obvious place for frequent reference. We practice learning the pronouns by using pointing gestures and I sometimes use my set to help trigger the correct pronoun selection when doing other speaking exercises or action games. Listening and speaking. Art and Installations. The tasks can be used in a listening and speaking lesson or be a warm-up exercise for a speaking class. Students learn what installations are and examine several examples of famous art installations. Tasks are followed by speaking about meaning of installations and examples of artwork from students’ country.  The tasks can be used for independent studies or distance-learning classes dealing with the topics of Art, Design, or museums.

This is a reading and matching exercise. They look at the lovely pictures, read the thirty sentences and decide which picture or pictures they are describing. Each sentence may describe one, two or all three of the pictures. There is a full key included. This excellent artwork is just right for teaching ESL. I hope it will be useful.

Listening and speaking. This worksheet helps students to develop listening comprehension. It includes food vocabulary revision, listening for general comprehension, listening for details and comprehension check assignments based on a short video. The students will learn about the well-known paintings that show food. Students also practice speaking and describe the types of food famous paintings depict, share their opinions on the featured artworks. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
