Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

This is a fun speaking activity for your pre-intermediate to advanced students. It is a detective story that engages students in conversation and will practice mainly questions and answers in simple present and simple past. **** You were invited to Mr Erringworth’s dinner party in his mansion. You will meet 9 people there, all of whom have some kind of relation with Mr Erringworth. Shortly after midnight, the host is found dead. It will be your task to interview all nine suspects and find the murderer. As the evening progresses you will get more information about the people and more details will be revealed. Here you are three activities related to food and preferences. 

First the students listen to a conversation about how to make a salad. Then they match the most usual topping to preapre a pizza to their names. Finally, as a speaking task, they describe their favourite pizza. 

As an extra-task, they could design some posters with the drawings of their pizzas or play a role-play in a restaurant.

COOKING TASTY

With this board game students will practise recognizing common mistakes. Please review necessary grammar points after the game (main focus is on subject-verb agreement, articles, plurals, there is/are, comparison etc.). An enjoyable way to test basic grammar. Usage Note regarding the Â´familyÂ´ questions: In American usage, a collective noun takes a singular verb when it refers to the collection considered as a whole, as in: The family was united on this question. The enemy is suing for peace. It takes a plural verb when it refers to the members of the group considered as individuals, as in: My family are always fighting among themselves. The enemy were showing up in groups of three or four to turn in their weapons. In British usage, however, collective nouns are more often treated as plurals. Depending on your class and curriculum, you might want to adapt or replace this question.

Coronavirus Word Search Activity

Funny Christmas play for 9 characters (can be reduced to 3-4 or increased to 15+ by reassigning the lines). This play will take 6-7 minutes to perform and is easy to remember as most actors only have a few lines. It focuses on the inflow of cheap, low-quality toys from abroad. It could also be used for a discussion about labour conditions, child exploitation and the world´s addiction to cheap imports. Enjoy.
