A Day Out At The Monkey Forest: Gap Fill Irregular Verbs

This gap filling activity allows for building up skills in using five most commonly used irregular verbs through completing five short question - answer exchanges. These short dialogues can be role-played by learners. Answer sheet is included.



This resource can be used on it's own or (recommended) as a follow up activity for "We Go In For Sport Every Day: Irregular Verbs" - another worksheet from my collection.



On my page you can also find a set of cut-up matching cards with the target irregular verbs: these can be used either as a warming up / revising activity before working on the worksheet, or as a recap in the end of the lesson.

A listening/discussion/writing worksheet based on the song "Just When I Needed You Most" by Smokie.

The listening part is a gap fill exercise. I suggest to play the song once first, before handing out the worksheet. For the first three verses the missing words are given 1) in the wrong order 2) with the letters mixed up and 3) in the wrong order. For the remaining verses the missing words aren't given. A key (full lyrics) is included. A part of the gap fill, almost all verbs have been omitted from the song so this worksheet could also be used as a lead in to practice irregular and regular verbs.

For the discussion part I have included a couple of questions to invite the students to think about the song and give reasons for what might have happened.

As for the writing part, students are asked to compose a short letter from "him" to "her" and it would be fun to share these letters with the class and vote for the most romantic just to end the class on a high note. Alternatively, if you want to omit the writing part, just get the students to sing the song together for a little bit of fun.
