Two different activities to practise Purpose Clauses

Purpose

This lesson is to introduce the learners of English to learn how to express a purpose or intention in English. It also indicates different ways to show the purpose.

EXPRESSING PURPOSE

This worksheet aims at introducing purpose expressions and how they are used to join sentences. What makes this worksheet useful is that the activities are designed in a way that ensures gradual transition. It includes an introductory activity that allows students to notice the use of the various expressions ( in order to, so as to, so that...). Then, students are invited to apply these strucures to another example to check their understanding. The second activiy introduces them to more practice including negative forms. The worksheet ends with a nice role-play activity.

some tasks for 1st year secondary school. unit 01 . they are a range of tasks to express purpose. I tried to make it follow the CBA and at the end they have to answer questions using the target language points. 

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Testing purpose

The worksheet was created by Harry Pottoo for intermediate level. The sheet is the introduction to purpose of author. It gives an opportunity for learners to find out what the purpose, its definitions and types of texts are. The learners can fill in to complete the worksheet after they learn with their teachers.

A worksheet for teaching the functions of purpose. In the first task, students read the text and answer comprehension questions, and then underline the expressions of purpose. Next, students look at the underlined expressions and give examples of the given rules from the text. In the third task, students fill in the gaps with the appropriate expression. In the las task, they rewrite/ join given sentences using the expressions in brackets. Teachers can add another activity in which students interview each others using why questions.

Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
