Reading activity that I used with my Pre-intermediate adult ESL students.  Grammar focus is on Present Continuous form.  

Room Make-over

This is a reading comprehension worksheet for Halloween. The first page talks about Halloween and Samhain. The second page has vocabulary, true or false and speaking questions. The last page is for the teachers. It can be used to do speaking before thr reading so that students can understand what they will be talking about.

What is Halloween (samhain) reading

This ws consists of a very complex exercise. First, students have to know some adjectives which have to do with geographical features. Second, I totally recommend the students to read quickly the exercise in order to be familiar with other geographical vocabulary that they don't understand. Now, it is the fun part! they have to fill in the gaps with a suitable adjective from the box above and then, they have to identify the place from the USA picture that you can see at the top of the page. I hope you can enjoy this exercise with your students as I did. Thank you.

Learners taking the C1 Advanced exam should be able to: Express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
