A cloze activity. Fill in the blanks with irregular verbs in the simple past. Fun story. A famous and classic story by Aesop that should be familiar to all children.

A recount of the fable, the Hare and the Tortoise in which the students have to fill in the verb in the past tense. Practises both regular and irregular verbs in the past tense.

The Hare and the Tortoise - Famous Fable - Gap Fill

This is a fable by Aesop; I just love Aesop! They have to decide if the verbs go into the past simple or the past continuous tense. Then they do the true or false activity and they are asked to write  the next paragraph in the story. A full key is included. 

The Old Man and the Little Cat

This is a worksheet based on an animated video of the famous Aesop fable, The Grasshopper and the Ant. There is a grammar exercise to revise reporting verbs and Reported Speech as well as a vocabulary exercise (crossword puzzle). Answer key provided.

Another folk tale (this one is Tibetan) for INTERMEDIATE students. Students must read the tale and answer seven reading comprehension questions.

Students are also asked to choose ADJECTIVES to describe the tiger and the frog and explain the reasons for their choices.



Very good reading activity that can lead into a discussion about personality adjectives.

Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets
