This activity can also be used to assist learners with understanding the different uses of 'to' and 'for' as well as various prepositions / participles.

St. Patrick's day - Irish singers and bands

Practice the past simple with the most famous Korean band. The objective is to revise or practice regular and irregular verbs in the past simple tense. It could also be used for reading comprehension. 

If your students are interested in BTS, you could start this exercise by showing them a song or some of their quotes (form lyrics, speeches etc. - they have a lot of wholesome content).

Depending on the country you live in, this worksheet could be from 14-years-old and upwards, but I have placed it as from 16. It mentions drugs-taking, sex, and sexual orientation, among other things. It also mentions mental health issues. However, if you have adult students or mature teenagers with an open mind and a mature attitude, I really recommend this for higher levels. For only 16 minutes it has to be one of the best short documentaries on Youtube. I may have written too many questions, so you can edit as you find fit. The answers are provided and the link to the video is at the foot of the page. I have also indicated where to pause to go over the questions. We Were Britain's First Female Rock Band - Video Class

This worksheet helps students revise the use of the first conditional. They complete the text with the verbs in brackets, complete some sentences with their own words, and complete sentences  with some words from the text.

The worksheet contains a nice passage for those who want te be in a band. Some words are missing. Students must fill in the gaps with the words given and then they must match some words given in a grid with their definitions.

This is a listening exercice using the famous chrismas song by band aid 'do they know it's christmas time at all'. The song can be found on youtube for example, the students listen and fill the gaps.

This worksheet focusing on jobs vocabulary can either be used as an individual or team reading exercise (page 1) or as a team game (page 2). As an extension, you can even make it into a writing lesson which students will surely enjoy. Full instructions provided on page 3. Have fun. 



Please note that some of the jobs are depicted as being female jobs such as nurse but this is not always necessarily so although in many countries the proportion of female nurses is much higher than male nurses. It goes without saying that both men and women can both be nurses and doctors so maybe take this moment to create awareness among your students in the classroom. Of course housewives are female as well but you might want to introduce the word house husband to make it clear that it is not necessarily the woman who stays at home.



Job Riddles (1) - Easy

(with Answer Key) This worksheet is based on the song The Show Must Go On by British rock band Queen. Before listening, the students are given a number of words from the lyrics and are asked to rewrite them in rhyming pairs. Then they try to complete the lyrics using these rhyming pairs. They listen to the song and check their answers. Finally, they do a vocabulary matching exercise so that they can understand the lyrics better. I have also included a short factual text (adapted from Wikipedia), which will help Ss get a wider understanding of the song.

Gap fill exercise based on pop band One Direction - What Makes you beautiful. This worksheet is a gap fill exercise followed by matching the gap words to definitions. After there are facts about One Direction and comprehension questions based on the facts.

In this ESL role play we’re gonna pretend to go to a Green Card Interview. We’ll need three characters: A wife, a husband and an immigrations officer. Great for practising asking and answering past simple and continuous questions.



If you've seen the movie Green Card with Gérard Depardieu and Andie MacDowell, you know that immigrants sometimes marry US citizens to get a green card to be able to stay and work in the States, and they have to pass an interview where they prove their marriage is real. 



Pair up students (husband-wife) and have them meet an immigrations officer separately. Before the interview they have 10 minutes to prepare their story together. They'll be asked 10 questions. In the interview both students have to tell the exact same story, because if the officer finds 3 differences in their stories, the wife will be deported back to her native country.
