I used it at elementary school. Students really like this song and listen to it a lot. Thanks to this activity, they know what it is about and learn and practice some basic words. 

To save paper I used smaller version of it - two activities on one sheet.

It is a simple worksheet where students are supposed to practise 'meeting a boyfriend' situation in a few exercises. In the end they should be able to use the phrases and use them in a conversation.

This reading will give practice on the past continuous forms USED TO and WOULD. I heard this story on the radio - a fellow saying he always used to measure the heads of any boyfriends his daughters brought home and it made me laugh out loud! Can you believe it? ;-)

Reading Comprehension.

Valentine's Day Cards

This is a simple ESL song activity. I tried to avoid the usual "fill-in the gaps" kind of activity, so, if you have some more time to spend, try to play the song before students can read the lyrics, and have them trying to listen how many times they sing "gonna" and "will". Another idea, if they are creative, you can discuss the story in the song. What is she going to do about the situation? How is the boyfriend going to react?

The students have to read the statements and than guess  what must have happened before using must have or might have + present perfect. 

Ex: Gwenda is jealous. Her boyfriend must have cheated on her.

The idea here is to be creative.

What must have happened?

Ss read the descriotions and choose the best gift they can think of for each girlfrined/boyfriend (they should be very specific, f.i. Louise wants to change her look to make her husband a surprise, so what exactly should she change about her look?) Then Ss can choose the "best gifts" and name a winner.

Be weary about the word 'FUCKING' even though it is used as an emphasizer. The song is about the singer's ex-boyfriends and how it has contributed to her personal growth in a positive way.
