Planning a trip

Objective:Planning a trip from any location to the destination of Mexico with a fixed budget and ideas for Cancun and/or Acapulco sights and activities. Handout is for the rough plan only, the text part is to written on a separate sheet.  Activities: It can be used as a group exercise as well for speaking and then writing the itinerary.

This is just a simple template which can be used as an in-class or homework project, where Ss work in small groups to plan a holiday which suits everyone. There is a powerpoint which gives guidelines and can be found in my resources. You could of course develop your own criteria and suggest different websites if you'd prefer. The Ss should be given a budget to stick to and make sure that each person is happy so this incorporates a lot of skills and target language, from suggesting ideas to negotiating and turning down ideas, from researching on English websites and working with numbers. It is also highly motivating and enjoyable for students and can be used at many levels by varying the degree of challenge involved.

Christmas Role Play : Oprah’s Favorite Things NOT 

Students are given a budget of €40 and have to create a dinner party meal for some friends. They should come up with dishes and desserts, and must label each food item. 



Then they can present their plan to the class.

Shopping List activity

Students are given a budget and either go to a store (like IKEA) or use online or paper catalogues to 'buy' furniture for their homes.

All girls and women like shopping. This worksheet is made to play a Shopping game. Students will need to choose items of clothes, match colors, create sets and contrive the budget.

Practice activity for agreeing and disagreeing. You´ll need to teach the necessary vocabulary and set expressions first. How to use: Cut out the personality cards and give one to each student. Tell them that the card is their personality. Then hand out the budget sheet for urban regeneration and tell them it is a shopping list given to them from central governemt. Tell them to hold a council meeting and each must present their budget to the rest stating the reasons why (according to their personalities). They then vote on each other’s policies.

Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
