This worksheet is designed for Czech English Maturita speaking practice, with a strong focus on comparative language and common geography and country topics used in oral exams. At the same time, it can easily be adapted for students who are not preparing for Maturita or who are not from the Czech Republic, as it focuses on universal themes such as countries, cities, culture, lifestyle, food, climate, and nature.

The main task is based on a three-column comparison chart with Place A, Place B, and What to Compare. Students respond with a few spoken sentences, which helps them practise extended speaking rather than short answers. The chart is flexible and can be rearranged or modified by the teacher to suit different classes, topics, or levels.

A key aim of the worksheet is practising comparative and contrast structures such as compared to, whereas, unlike, on the other hand, and more or less than. The focus is on clear comparison and logical explanation rather than memorising detailed facts, making the activity suitable for mixed-ability classes.

Students are encouraged to use the internet for quick research if they are unsure about information. This reflects real-life language use and helps learners develop confidence in checking facts and expressing ideas in English. Teachers may also allow the use of AI tools such as ChatGPT for fact-checking and idea support.

The worksheet includes a QR code linking to a Baamboozle game based on the same comparison topics. This allows teachers to gamify the activity, especially for lower-level or less confident students, while keeping the same learning goals. The material works well for A2–B1 learners as controlled speaking practice and for B1–B2 learners as more open exam-style speaking.
