The learners will review the months of the year, and also the dates. They will then use the pictures in the work sheet to read the expiry dates given on some food items.They can ask/respond to questions about the expiry dates as well.

Pairwork - Dates

I used this for my conversation class. Young adults and adults. I introduce the concept of Speed Dating, which is not culturally known in my country of teaching. I give each student a character. Asian students (whom I teach) are naturally shy so giving them a character is easier for them then being themselves. You can start by giving them any vocabulary you think they will need. Explain that their task is to interact with others in a speed dating scenario, they will have 3 minutes to speak to each student, speaking as their character. After 3 minutes they will change seats and speak with another student. When everyone has spoken to each other, each student will write down which character they would like to meet again. You can check to see if there are any matches and discuss with the students if it is a good match or not.



This is easily edited or you can add more vocabulary or make it suit you level. All the pictures are taken from google.

The date

Students make questions they might ask on a first date using the word "What" (or whatever you would like, we were concentrating on that). We form pairs of Person A and Person B. Person A sits and Person B moves. We give the students two or three minutes to ask their partner their questions and either O or X if they like the answer the other person said. 

Speed Dating

This is based on the old T.V. show 'Blind Date'. For those unfamiliar with format one singleton must choose a date from three people that they can't see but can only ask each the same three questions to determine the best match for themselves. For teaching purposes this is a kind of roleply activity that can be fun with a mixed class of older teenagers or adults. The 'single' student should begin by introducing themselves and giving some biographical data.  The three students should then introduce themselves (as 'number one', 'number two' etc) and give some biographical date in an amusing way.  The 'single' student then choose a student to ask question one (contestant one, contestant two or contestant three) then they ask question one to the next student and so on. The process is then repeated for question two. It was traditional on the T.V. show to provide amusing answers to the questions in a sometimes flirtatious way. After all the questions are asked the contestant must choose one student to go on a 'date'.

Valentine Date

Every student needs to read the text and think of the word which best fits in each space.

Students write about their ideal significant other in a fill-in template.  The aim is reinforcing adjectives and practicing comparatives.  The ads and replies can be posted on a school online discussion board, or printed out on newspaper-esque paper.  This is a motivating activity for teens at the pre-intermediate level.

Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well
