This worksheet is in preparation of students beginning an online English conversation class. Students should review the typical questions asked in a self introduction and then practice three situational conversations between a student and teacher, an exchange student and host family, and an exchange student with a fellow student. Following the dialogues are a set of listening/reading comprehension questions.

Self Introduction Situational Dialogues

There are 5 sample dialogues for ESL students to do play roles and practice saying hello and good-bye.

Students will take turns re-enacting the dialogues and learn how to brake the ice when they meet strangers.

Greetings and Farewell dialogues

Here are eleven short dialogues with a funny end. Most of them are to be played two by two, but some of them have three characters. You can give it to your student to train their pronunciation and bring some fun into the class. You can also ask them to memorise their dialogue to train their memory.

I wrote several imperative dialogues with an exercise section of 10 practices below. Students can also learn useful expressions in the dialogues. Hope they're useful!

Matching parts of mini dialogues with pictures. It is useful for kids because these are phrases, they can use everyday. My pupils loved it. You can role play different situations.

This worksheet aims at practising Holiday language through sequencing events in the past. A teacher can modify the language according to lesson aims. I attached pictures to link the dialogues with the context.

On a holiday, dialogues

By writing and performing short dialogues, adults and teens can practice using count and noncount (uncountable) nouns with definite and indefinite articles.   Students could write these dialogues alone or in pairs. Teachers should focus only on the correct use of the target grammar and vocabulary, and not worry about other errors. The important thing is that students use the vocabulary in grammar in a meaningful way, and their errors do not impede communication.  


This activity has been used effectively in ESL 2 (high beginning) with middle and high school students.

Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
