Future Shouting Dictation

My dictation exercise includes listening, writing, speaking and scanning and comprehension. There are four sheets to my dictation exercise. 
1.	An article sheet for you to read to the student.
2.	A vocabulary sheet for the student, send this to the student.
3.	A question-and-answer (Q&A) sheet for the student. This is also sent to the student.
4.	A question sheet for you to read to the student.
I suggest you copy and paste into four different documents. The question-and-answer sheet can be used for other dictations.
I convert the vocabulary, and question and answer sheet to pdf format, as the student’s device doesn’t need MS Word installed for it to display.
Send or give the vocabulary sheet and Q&A to the student. Dictate the questions to the student. Then check they’ve written them fully by asking them to read the questions they’ve written. Be aware some will attempt write only a couple of key words! Next you read the article to the student, but not too fast. I usually read it twice, maybe emphasizing the answers. Finally, you ask the student the questions and check their answers.  Maybe re-read the relevant part so they can hear the answer. 


After School Dictation

The Great Dictator

I used these for running dictations. Students work in pair. One students runs to where the dictation is posted, reads and memorises part of it. They then run back to their partner and dictate. This can be repeated as often as necessary during the time limit (teacher discretion). Pairs swap over and the second text can be used.

NUMBER DATE & TIME DICTATION

My students and I enjoy dictation exercises. It's very important to know the simbols when you work with a paragraph. 

Punctuation marks for dictation. 

Cut up and stick these sentences around the classroom. Break students into groups or pairs. Designate one student to be the "writer" and another student to be the "reader". Mime the sentence you want the students to find and then the reader stands up and finds that sentence, comes back and reports it to the "writer" who remains seated. The writer writes down what the reader says. Repeat the process until all of the sentences are complete. Can be used for beginners with their native language equivalents on their worksheets. Found it gets students working as teams and moving around on the first day of class. 

Running Dictation Classroom English

This is an activity adapted from Key, S (1997). Reward. Resource Pack. Heinemann.
Students will race in pairs to discover the names of famous people presented in the form of a number code.

Lyrics and info-gap dictation sheets used with a musical pronunciation unit. Play the music; have Ss read along;have Ss dictate to each other in pairs; sheck against whole lyrics section; and then perform the song as a class (requires music-Sam Cooke's "Wonderful World."

Describe the position of the things in each box. The students should be able to draw to right thing in the right box by listening to the directions.

Learners taking the C1 Advanced exam should be able to: Express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
