I just recently posted this B2 Upper-Intermediate lesson plan to Fluentize.com, but I'd like to share it here as well. It's downloadable for free for 24 hours (from 4pm EST on February 10, 2020) on Fluentize when you register. This is just a .doc format of the oroginal lesson plan you can find on Fluentize. The lesson also goes more in depth in the original version on Fluentize, but there's a lot here you can work with.



Essentially, I wanted to draw up a lesson plan on the topic of the coronavirus due to all of the buzz circling around the recent outbreak. I really wanted to find a way to get students thinking, talking, and learning about the virus, and I found the perfect video to accompany the lesson. Especially with all of the information out there about the coronavirus, I felt it would be best to work with something concise but also reliable and informative. I also wanted to be careful not to get too deep into the science of it that students wouldn't be able to follow. I ended up finding the perfect video based on an informative news report from DW News.



On Fluentize, you can find the "mini-lesson" - something new that that we've been doing at Fluentize. A mini-lesson is basically just a more compact version of a full lesson (about half the total length of a full lesson plan). There is also our standard interactive lesson plan for teachers who have online lessons - these lessons come equipped with interactive fields for students to write within.



The lesson plan is definitely geared towards adults, but you could also use it with older teens. As you will see, the lesson plan contains a range of activities for speaking, listening, vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar, all based on the video topic content. There is a quiz and review section as well, with a bonus writing activity for students to write an evacuation order in the city where the outbreak first occurred. Anyway, I hope this gives you some good material to work with this week, and hope you all enjoy the lesson!

The Coronavirus Explained

These are cards practicing Animals and prepositions of place (In, On, Under). Can be flashcards but...

I am using these as game cards, printing out a bunch giving each student a card and they walk around and ask their friends where the animal is and the friend says a sentence and then the other friend asks , and they say the sentence and then play rock paper scissors... and the winner keeps the card the loser can come get a new card, until the cards are out (I print about 20 extra) usually takes me to the end of class.

This worksheet focuses on adjectives ending in -ing and -ed (for example boring and bored) and uses drawing to make the student understand the difference between the two possible uses.

Students play in pairs.They throw the dice and draw the fruit corresponding to the number of spots. At the end, they have to count how many bananas, pears, etc. there are in the fruit bowl.

A worksheet to help students understand the difference in meaning between words such as 'exciting' and 'excited'. Students choose the correct word, then ask each other the questions. The aim is to practise using the correct -ed or -ing ending while also getting some good conversation practice and learning about their classmates. Hope you find it useful!

This is my 9th logic game. It´s about appearance. It´s good to have some fun before, during or at the end of the Summer Holiday. The key is on the 2nd page. The clues are very simple. This exercise was designed for today's students, who have very little imagination.  I tell them to "be Peter",  to put themselves into the story.  Most students really get into it.  Some need a little extra urging and direction.  I have seen some really creative endings to the story.  Have fun with it.

When I heard this song I found it very easy to follow and I thought I would be a very good listening activity. I took some words out of the lyrics because I wanted my students to practice Past Simple and Past Continuous, but you can change the words, add or do as you please according to your students'  needs.

At the end, I added some discussion questions in relation to de topics and ages dealt in the song. Again, you can modify them according to your students'  needs.

Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well
