Words and videos to help teach the long vowel e sound (ee, ea)

You can play the videos for the kids first to let them know the idea of the two vowels that walk together, then you can introduce the vocabulary through pictures and help them read it.

To make sure they understood, let them read the sentences alone.

After explaining the long vowel e (ee, ea) you can use this sheet for more exercises. 

It has 3 exercises, choose the correct word to make sure they understood the words, making sentences for more freedom, and finally a reading text to make sure they can pronounce the words in the correct way. 

I recommend teaching the ee, ea words ahead before using this exercise sheet for better results. You'll find it uploaded.

If your kid is already able to read CVC fluently, you can start introducing blending words. Blending words that are practiced here are ee, oo, ea, ai, and oa.

Phonics (Blending Words)

1) Matching images and words with ee spellings.  Pre-teaching may be required. 

2) Gap fill letters for words on first page with long ee. 

3) Read and circle words with the long ee sound.  Could be done as a listening activity with the teacher reading the words. 

Teacher should draw attention to 'she', 'clean' and 'eat' with the same long e sound. 

4) Comprehension Qs 

5) Write words from the reading activity with long e sounds. 

6) Words with long e sound and ea spelling - gap fill letters.  Input may be required to pre-teach vocab.

It is a boardgame for students learning long vowels.

Put 2-4 students in a group. Each student rolls the dice and moves their game piece the same number of spaces. Once land on a space, he/she should read out loud the word.
