A selection of English ESL for kids printables

This is a fun simple basic vocabulary building crossword puzzle about wild animals. It's ideally used for young children who are just starting to learn how to read and write. It can be used for a class as a whole or one-on-one. This is a great way to practice writing and spelling skills and reinforce the brand new vocabulary that the kids just learned. You can also use this with flashcards so the students can make connections and understand better the sentences/words on this worksheet.

Animals

Perfect game for all ages. 15-25 min activity



You can use conditionals, or adapt it to any other level. 



Instuctions:



Print and cut out the cards. You should have every character in the deck. If you have a big class you can add another wolf and more villagers. 



The mail objective of the game is to find and kill the wolf. 



Give your students one card. They have to see what is their character. Then tell them to go to "sleep" Everyone should close their eyes (except for the girl, who can discretely see what everybody is doing). 



Call the wolf out and tell it to point a student to "eliminate". 



Now tell everybody to wake up. The studentes take turns and start voting, trying to guess who the wolf is. Let them speculate and ask them why they are voting for that classmate. 



For higher levels use conditionals. 

i/e: If Mary was killed, the wolf must / could / might be Joan. 



From the second round continue calling out the wolf first, then call the fortune teller (who can see a classmate's paper), the devil (can revive itself 2 times), the angel (can revive an ally 3 times), the minion (changes its paper with someone else), the witch (can swap 2 classmates' papers). Each of them point and try to be as discrete as they can so they don't get caught. 



I have played this game for years and kids and adults have a blast playing it! 







THE WOLF GAME

This can really be a game to practice or review any set of vocabulary you have just taught the students. For younger kids, I usually give one hand-out(see d file) to each student. This is how it\'s done: Ss mingle amongst themselves. Two make a pair; do rock-scissors-paper; The winner gets to ask a question, while the loser has to answer using one of the new words they\'ve just learnt; Then they have to switch partners. The winner can move one level/number up the \'evalution chain\', till he/she becomes the spiderman/woman. I teach in Japan, and have adopted this game successfully in classes from elemenary all the way to high school.

Present continuous activity. Use of is and isn´t in sentences. Students complete with IS or ISN´T, then match pictures with the correct sentences. Fun activity for kids, since it's been done with cartoon characters.

What is Mr Bean doing?

This activity requires some preparation before class. The teacher must print out the verbs/actions for the kids previously. In the class tell them they need to stick on their daily schedule the things they are going to do in a week. Kids can improve their reading while using creativity and critical thinking to create their own schedule.

My week activity

Print the worksheet in at least two copies (for a small group of 8-9 students). Each kid get 2-3 different cards and they have to ask questions to pair up what they have got. Possible questions are "Have you got?" "Can you see?" etc. Great to get shy students talking.
