Rules of the game

• The pupils play in pairs and each player needs

a counter (any small object will do). They place

their counters on Start and throw the dice,

saying the number that comes up. The player

with the highest number begins the game by

saying My turn.

• Depending on the square they land on, the

pupils have to answer the question. If they land

on a ‘Miss a turn’ square, the pupils miss a turn

and wait until it is their turn again. 

• The game is non-competitive

Teaching (and attending) writing classes can get a bit boring sometimes. This board game aims to put more fun (and competition) into writing. With the prompts given on each square, players or team try to make sentences and get to the finish line first. SAMPLE ANSWERS and instructions included on game board. LetÂ´s make writing a joy!

These are the answers to the dinosaur game. This is a game to test the student's knowledge about dinosaurs and to answer the questions in full sentences with as much explanation as he/she possesses. Some of the questions are true/false and some yes/no. Justify your answer.

KEY to Dinosaur Game + Game

A short warmer for those whose students come in dribs and drabs to their classes. Basically, students have to pick a card and then have 5 seconds (or 10 if prefered) to complete the analogy. For example, board is to teacher as exercise book is to (hopefully the answer will be student). There are a couple that are a tad ambiguous (ocean is to sea as continent is to ... possible answers could be island or country) but most are pretty clear. I am going to do some more advanced versions of this to help consolidate higher level vocabulary although this would also help for basic levels. The idea is not mine (I pinched it from a book) but the examples are. There is a small section of possible answers at the back.

2.Conditional Type II

The doctor must use the conditional type II as mush as possible with phrases such as:

I think you should … if you were a dog, you would …

3.Reported speech

The patient will practice reported speech when they report back to the class about the advice the doctor has given them.

Procedure



1.Cut out the situation cards.

2.Cut out the top half of first page and give out.

3.Split the class into groups of two.

4.Talk about the joke.

5.Go over any relevant vocabulary.

6.Explain the role play situation to them.

7.Tell each group who is the doctor and patient.

8.Give the patient one card face-down.

9.Give each group 5-10 minutes to develop the situation.

Note:  Try to encourage the groups to act out the role play situation as they will enjoy it much more.

10.Each patient reports to the class saying what the doctor advised them to do.

11.Change roles in each group.

12.Vote which doctor gave the best advice.
