Animals - guessing

This is an easy game to get acquainted with the first vocabulary on Christmas topic. You may not only guess the meaning of the words but also you may make up sentences using the tenses that a child knows.

Ss work in pairs, one has a card, and the idea is that they can say only one word each to guess the word from the card.

boulderdash/call my bluff: give a word to each team, ask them to make up 2 false definitions for the word. Each team reads out the word and all 3 definitions to the rest of the class. Teams have to decide which is the real definition, and get points for guessing correctly.

past simple and past participle are written in white. You show the list on an interactive board or on a pc and ask students to tell you the right word. When they guess, you reveal the word by changing the colour.

Exercises to revise  the words before the end-term exam. this worksheet has five basic exercises, such as translation from Russian into English, guessing the word from the definition, sentence completion and crossing out extra words from each given line.

Word revision 

The is the game in which students work in teams and their task is to present the words on a card. Students have 90 seconds to do it and their team must guess all the words. If they guess one word - they get 1 point, if they guess two words they get 3 points and if they manage to guess all of them - they get 5 points. The first word should be drawn, the second showed and the last one talked about. If you have a weaker group, they can have more time to do this task. The group with the biggest score wins.

Professions & Job - Alphabetical quiz

I made these fun Halloween cards to use with my elementary and junior high school students. I initially made these cards from the idea of the game "Taboo," which is where the player who draws the card cannot say the actual card itself or the "taboo word" that is listed at the bottom of the card. To get my students speaking, I divide my class into groups and have one student go for one minute where they draw a card and try to describe their card without saying the "taboo" words. If their teammates can guess the word, that card is given to whoever guessed the word and the same student continues drawing and describing their card before their minute is up.



My students always get riled up playing with the cards this way but I've been able to use these cards in a variety of ways, apart from just the "Taboo" gameplay. With a little creativity, I'm sure you'll be able to find new and unique ways your students can enjoy these cards too!
