A selection of English ESL guess what printables

I made this worksheet for my YLE-Flyers students as a review of what they learned last year describing clothes and colours. I hope you may find it useful. It's a very simple activity of finding out who is who by describing the clothes they are wearing and then matching each sentence with each child.



EDIT: The sentences describing the children lose the format when uploaded. I used the font 'Architec Daugther' to make it look more fun. Feel free to change it to your like.

Guess who!

Students must read the opinion of three kids telling them about their favorite season. Together with their teacher they must guess what other activity they can perform in the seasons. They have a model of writing to follow and they must write about their personal opinion

In pairs the kids should ask the weather forecasts for the respective days and by answer, try to guess what country they are talking about,

You  also could change this activity, adapting for other themes. 

Before the kids start it, the teacher could call one of them to practice and demonstrate first how it works.



Remember that each one should choose one country and keep it secret.

Here is a new matching activity to learn or revise names of jobs, they match the names to the pictures, tehn you can either ask them to mime a job the others guess, or mentalyy choose a job , their partner ask questions to guess what the job is

Students can ask twenty questions to guess what the word on the card is. Can also be used for pictionary or taboo. Great as an icebreaker!

Explain a recipe... have classmates guess what it is.  Practice speaking, vocabulary, adjectives (superlatives, comparatives)

Six exercises on the topic: read the poem and say what pets give us, match the pictures with the words, guess the riddles, read the text and answer the questions, choose the quotation, choose interesting information about the pets. Key is included. Thank you!!!

Do You Have A Pet?

Having a Summer Bucket List is a great way to set your goals and have fun! 

You can choose each activity every day and try something new in your life! 

First of all, students can read this list. Then tick the things he/she definitely wants to do.Practising "to be going to" will help student to talk about their plans. If the year of study isn't finished yet, student can start doing bucket list activities and share emotions with their peers and a teacher.

Secondly, this list can be used while making up role-play activities. Student's can make up their own dialogs.

Thirdly, students can play different games. For example, one student can show any activity using gestures and other students should guess what this activity is in English.

Finally, student can have fun giving task to each other. For example: "Max, your task is to dance in the rain, take a picture of it and share with us".

I've tried to make this worksheet colourful, so the students could feel the atmosohere of summer and enjoy their summer holidays!

Summer Bucket List

Your partner or teacher has to guess what picture is shown on your card.  Taboo game. Print and then cut up. Practice letters of the alphabet. Beginners can use word suggestions (if they can read) to describe the picture on the card. No sounds or gestures are allowed. 



Can be used as alphabet flashcards also.

Alphabet Taboo Classroom Poster

Take one person, one room and one weapon and place them in an envelope where nobody can see them. Distribute the other cards out between the teams randomly. The teams of 2 or 3 must guess who the murderer is, where they murdered and with what weapon. 

Teams take turns to ask questions to the other teams, during which everyone else can collect evidence and eliminate potential suspects, weapons etc... 

However, they can't ask a direct question, ie. What cards do you have? Is it Professor Plum? Do you have a knife? This forces students to cask indirect questions such as "Do you have the man who works in a hospital?". 

Each team gets one chance to make a guess at who/what/where and can do so at any time. If they are correct then they win the game, otherwise they are out but they carry on answering questions for the other teams until somebody guesses correctly or all teams are out.

Cluedo Game Cards

This is a fun way to get students to read and practice whatever point you are working on.  Instead of the traditional Battleship game, which has guesses such as "A6, C5, etc." this one involves combining sentences, and the students must listen to get the right square.



On the left-hand side, put in the beginning of sentences, such as:

I am going

He is going

Sarah is riding the bus

Hassan is skateboarding 



On the top, but the second half of the sentences:

to the store.

to the zoo.

home.

to school.



To guess a square, instead of "A6," the student might say, "Hassan is skateboarding to the zoo."  "C5" might be, "I am going to school."



Print two copies of the grid for each student and put them on old file folders, so that one is flat on the table, and the other is vertical in front of the student. 



The students take a few minutes to put in their "ships" with X's in adjacent squares.  Once they are ready, they start playing.  They are trying to guess the location of their opponent's "ships".  Once they guess all the squares of a "ship," it is sunk.  The first person to "sink" all of the ships wins!

With this fun activity you can practice the present perfect continuous. Divide your class in couples, or groups of 3-4. Each student picks a card and read the consequence of what he/she has been doing. The rest have to guess what is the thing she/he has been doing.
