First sheet: original drawings expressing several prepositions of direction. I taught this in a yoga school, so after practicing the language we made an assault course out of blankets, mats, blocks, and chairs. I then had the students direct one another through the course.



Second sheet: A couple of homework activities, including idioms using prepositions of direction.



There's a bit of Japanese in the file as this is for Japanese students, but feel free to edit!

Prepositions of Direction

Students practice present simple 'to be' relating to people's age and bodily descriptions. Students practice descriptions (hair, eyes) and family vocab. Students chose which family members to describe.

Easy. To practice verb TO BE while reading about the tallest man, the hairiest teenager and a lady from the USA who has got the smallest waist in the world. All data was taken from the official Guinness book of records.

DESCRIBING PEOPLE

Useful vocabulary for students who are keen on hairdressing. The activities were designed for a Spanish hairdresser who wanted to set up a business in the UK. Different types of activities.

HAIRDRESSING VOCABULARY

This worksheet contains lots of pictures of hair styles, face details/hair, clothing materials and so on, which students need to label. There is also a fun A/B activity at the end and an opportunity for students to draw (and label) a picture of themselves.

Can be used in several ways:

1. As a dictation exercise when the teacher names the objects in the pupils' mother toungue and asks them to find the words in the grid

2. As a competition when the teacher asks the students to find in the grid all the words they see in the pictures (note that the board is in the backround and the chair is behind the desk). Assign 3-5 minutes for the task, then compare how many  words were found.

Classroom vocabulary wordsearch

This is a vocabulary list with pictures that I use to help children learn how to describe people using the verb "to be" and also how to use the correct terms for hair colours.   



Examiners have complained in the past about the use of yellow for blonde hair and red for ginger hair.  They say that this is too simplistic and not correct. 



It explains both the physical and emotional attributes of people. 



It is given to the students to help them remember how to use the verb and adjective word structure.

Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well
