A selection of English ESL happened printables

Here you find the lyrics of the song It happends, from Sugarland. Trying to make it easier, I have prepared a worksheet where students have to write some parts in the correct orders and, in others, they have to choose the correct word. Hope you like it!

This worksheet is for students level from level b1. It is meant to be done orally, but can also be done in writing. The students read the questions and look at the pictures. They should guess what has happened and give a creative answer. Ex. Why is the room so messy? There might have been a break in.

Why - guessing what has happened

The students have to look at the pictures and describe was each person was doing, using past continuous.

What was happening...? - Past continuous

Students take turns to finish a story. 



Each student gets a story handout.

(There are 6 kinds of handouts, for added variety). 

The last page is the back of the handout and gives students writing tips.



Student 1 - draw Picture 2

Student 2 - write a sentence to describe Picture 2/ follow sentence 1

Student 3 - draw Picture 3, etc. 



(picture -> sentence -> picture -> sentence...)



When 6 pictures and 6 sentences are finished, return to original student and they write the last sentence to complete the story.

I asked Bart to help me with teaching again, this time with the passive structure. Make sure Ss understand the main logic behind the passive: it´s used to answer questions about what happened to something/someone, as opposed to questions about what someone/something did. Students now have to say what injury or mishap happened to Bart. Page 2 has the solutions.
