This is a song worksheet with a detailed plan suggesting how to use it on the final page. I have it marked for intermediate students up but it would be quite challenging to intermediate Students especially when it comes to interpreting. So think carefully about your students before you use it. It involves a variety of tasks, and has a lot of vocabulary. You could easily change the activities as there are so many things that can be taken from it and adapt it for higher levels. There is also a reading activity in it which can take the pressure off students if they are having difficulty interpreting the video for themselves.

Teaching Instructions:

1.	Show the students two photos. One of a “whole” heart and one of a “broken heart”. Ask the students about the difference.

2.	Let the students listen to the song once. Ask them how the song makes them feel. Happy? Sad?

3.	Hand out the paper, play the song again and get the students to complete the exercises.

4.	Go through each exercise and make sure the students have the correct answer.

5.	Go through the following questions:

a.	What’s the story behind the song?

b.	What’s the relationship between the singer and the person he is singing about?

c.	Why might the singer want to “walk out the door”?

d.	How do people feel when they are heartbroken?

e.	What could we do to make them feel better?

f.	Have you ever been heartbroken? What did you do to get over it?

g.	Have you ever helped a friend to get over a broken heart? What did you do? Were you successful?

Lionel Richie - Tender Heart

This is a reading and video lesson that teaches a little bit about American culture. I have the students read the first part and then watch the video. There are discussion questions included in the lesson. Then we do the same with the second part of the lesson.

The Heart Attack Grill

Give heart-shaped activity to each group (4-5 ppl in each) and have a race to see which group can finish first. Good for review about food.
