In this worksheet, you will find dialogues, a week planning, common questions and answers about hobbies, a short reading exercise on the same topic and some vocabulary. 

It was initially created to asses the comprehension of my students about a Unit on hobbies and activities, but you can use it as a training session.

This is a lesson plan about hobbies. It is centered around the vocabulary, some common expressions and a listening task as well as watching of a video. There are speaking activities, too.

Speaking about hobbies

The list consists of 25 ready-to-use questions about hobbies. They will be perfect for middle, hight school students as well as adults at Elementary, Pre-Intermetiade and even Intermediate language levels.

Hobbies Conversation Questions

This is a task whereby students must think of ways to describe certain hobbies and then compare their descriptions. It's a conversation-based task and you can use it as part of a larger task to discuss hobbies.

Hobbies adjective activity

Memory Game: Students are given the worksheet and they can see it for three minutes. Then, they have to turn it back and say how many sports they can remember. The student with the most guesses wins the game. 

As a follow up activity, students can mime a sport and the other students have to guess the name of the sport. The student with the most guesses wins the game.

Talking about hobbies is one of the easiest ways to get students communicating with each other at an elementary level. It is an adaptable and personalized topic that can be used in surveys, interviews and other speaking activities such as the short conversational exchanges in the activity on this page.

This is a reading comprehension activity that focuses on how to express abilities and hobbies. Students read the text, choose the correct option in the given sentences, and answer the questions.

In this little worksheet about hobbies and interests, the students have to write the missing words in the sentences. Then they have to draw some objects related to hobbies.



I have included both cursive and script; in Europe students are used to reading cursive but it might not be the case in your country. Use the one that makes the most sense for you!

Create short conversations about the topics using the vocabulary 

Trends, fashions & hobbie

Five short texts on different people's hobbies, interests, likes and dislikes, using words like 'often', 'sometimes', 'never', etc.

Give each student in the class a different text to read aloud. Then they can either make up their own questions on the text they've just read, to ask the other students (to practise question formation), or you can prepare your own questions to ask them for reading comprehension. Or download and do whatever you feel like with it. :)

Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts. Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, using linking phrases (=words that connect ideas between sentences). Main grammar points to know: inversion, mixed conditionals, modals in the past, all passive forms, phrasal verbs (all patterns), wish/if only for regrets

Learners who can smoothly communicate in every walk of life, read long texts and write well

Learners taking the C2 Proficient exam should be able to:<ul><li>Understand almost everything read or heard with ease.</li><li>Summarize information from a variety of sources into a coherent presentation.</li><li>Express themselves using precise meaning in complex scenarios.</li><li>Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations</li></ul>
