Each student gets a baggie with 4 M&M´s. They then have to answer the questions based on the colours of M&M´s in their bag. You can also give them a few more M&M´s so they can sample 2 or more first and then answer the questions. The students love the activity because they also get to eat candy!

M&M Icebreaker

A conversation activity adapted for my students. Students write their preference in the center and for each topic, must find one person who loves, likes, and doesn't like their choice. 

Express preferences and find others with similar opinions.

End with calling on a few students to answer "why". 

Takes about 20 minutes and is a lot of fun, while using simple language.

FUNNY CONVERSATION ICEBREAKER QUESTIONS

This fantastic icebreaker activity is great for a first day or for already-bonded classes.  Cut out each question and post them in a different place in the room (gets students out of their seats!).  Students work in pairs or small groups, move to the question and speak for at least one minute per question.  Can also just be used as a worksheet in groups.  My low-level students love this activity as the questions are both easy for them to understand and thought-provoking!  GENERATES LOTS OF CONVERSATION!

CATEGORY/LETTER GAME / ICEBREAKER

Procedure:

Students complete all or some the sentences individually (depending on number of students), making sure nobody can see them. Next, they cut along the dotted lines, fold strips in half and toss individual sentences into a hat or bag. 

When everyone has finished, the theacher reads each sentence out and ss have to guess whose sentence it is. 

"Secrets" is a fun way to get to know eachother on the first day

Great icebreaker for a new class to get to know each other. 

 Students must find one person who fits each description by asking questions (ex: "do you bite your nails?").  Then they must ask for more information.  I always tell my students they need at least two follow-up questions.  Have fun!
