Interview about daily routine

A basic reading comprehension about a girl who fails an interview. True or false and comprehension questions. A full key is provided. This can lead to discussion about job interviews.

Reading comprehension: The Interview

Worksheet to fill out in pairs. The first part contains a short explanation on reported speech. The second part is pair work designed to exercise reported speech. First, in pairs, students must interview each other, filling out the questionnaire. Then, using the answers provided by their teammate, they prepare a presentation about the other classmate, using the indirect style. The questions can be adapted to suit adult students and made more difficult as well to work with other levels. 

Reported Speech - the Interview

This is a listening activity on a short interview with mixed media artist Lauren Brevner. She never went to art school, but went to Japan and apprenticed with Sin Nakayamal, another self-taught artist. Later on she succeeded through making her art public on Instagram. There is a gap-filling activity for accurate listening, and more general comprehension questions on the interview.

This is a listening and vocabulary activity about a short interview with Kat Lavers, who runs an urban small-scale garden in the area of Melbourne, Australia. There are two short vocabulary activities and some comprehension questions on the interview.

Students can add additional material, It is best that they memorize the lines, after practicing the role play. Real life situations for esl students. Team work. I used these in freshmen classes at a Korean University. Practice in pairs, then perform at the from of the class. Two opposing tables is best.

The Job Interview ESL

Students go into groups (ideally 3-5). They cut the questions to make a card pile. A student takes a card from the pile and asks the question to a classmate. The classmate answers the question. Other students in the group learn to listen quietly in the mean time. The student who answered the question, takes the next card from the pile. The process repeats itself.


The success criteria during the activity:
- one person speaks at a time,
- others listen attentively,
- students help each other when they can't find the words,
- every person contributes,
- students encourage each other.
