This is an easy-to-follow chocolate chip cookie recipe that can be given to students for them to bake at home or in class (if you have access to a kitchen). Be careful with the oven!



I included pictures, so beginner students can easily identify the ingredients and steps to follow.



It\'s very useful to introduce food and measurements vocabulary, as well as to give our students a first approach to reading comprehension.

You can also challenge them to speak in English all the time while cooking!



(My younger students LOVED the hands-on approach, rather than me giving them a list of vocabulary to study).

Cookie Recipe

A traditional battleship game where the squares are identified by asking a question about two prompts (food for the rows, places for the columns), for example: 

Is there      a banana       in the kitchen?

Are there   any bananas   in the kitchen?

Are            the bananas  in the kitchen?

Is the chef ready? - Present Continuous

A word search you give your students so they can become familiar with household objects. Before handing out the sheet ask students what have they got in their living room/kitchen/bathroom/bedroom. Ask them to draw on the board and write the vocab if they know it . Divide class in to appropriate groups and then give them  each a word to find, once they have found it and circled the word, write into the table beneath the word search. They then swap words. Make it competitive , use different colours for each object and encourage students to use phrases like " I found lamp." - "Where is fan? I can't find it." Then go on to ask the students " Have you got a ..? How many have you got? Where is it? Who uses it? etc..

This worksheet prepares students to a test on the topic kitchen. This is a useful revision of the cooking verbs which can be found among other worksheets on this website.

Guess the cooking verb

A nice kitchen picture. They have to choose there is or there are and fill the blanks with it and then write in the number of the image the sentence is describing. A basic worksheet. Adaptable picture could be used for the present continuous tense. 

There is/There are

A picture about safety conditions. This can be used to practise modals, particularly SHOULD. First, they students match the descriptions to the picture, then they rearrange the sentences to say what Mum should do. This can lead to some good speaking practise about do's and don'ts in the kitchen. Key included.

Students need to list as many objects that can be found in various rooms in a house such as in a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room. This is to see how much learners know about the space where they live.
