A crossword puzzle to learn some vocabulary about detective stories

Murder and mystery vocabulary

In this activity, children have to use the appropriate links. They have to write the connectors in the gaps. Later, they have to read the short story and write and ending to practise writing.

This crossword is a good way of revising crime and detective stories vocabulary. Students must find weapons, famous characters, a famous author and key characters in investigations. Crosswords are always an opportunity to revise while having fun!

Crime and mystery crossword puzzle

In this developed version of ALIBI, students play the roles of suspects in a murder mystery, except in this version, there is an actual murderer. You will distribute these character cards (7) to students, and have the rest play police officers. The characters can spend 10 minutes socializing and interacting with each other, while the police officers prepare questions for the investigation (they'll be briefed about the main plot).

After, you can start the interrogation whichever way you'd like (characters interrogated in isolation, or do it as a speed-dating style, each character interviewed by an officer across the class).
Tips: students should not share the "secrets" in their cards (only if absolutely necessary), they also have the freedom to make up additional details about their characters when convenient.

Scooby and his gang are in Scotland, and have to solve a case ; warning, the vocabulary is asked to French-speaking students, but you can always change that part !


It's quite simple to solve, the culprits are Ian and Duncan.

A Fun Mystery Part 1

This game is a murder mystery game for Halloween. Students need to ask questions in order to guess who committed the crime, who was the victim, with what they were killed and where.
